mmbrad02 Posted October 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2015 This is our first cruise and obviously I can print the tags and read what it says to do. But, I would like to laminate my tags or use clear packaging tape on them to make them a little sturdier. So here is your easiest question of the day. Do you leave the sheet out flat to laminate/tape and then fold and secure to your luggage or do you fold it all and then laminate/tape? If we become frequent cruisers we will buy the actual tag holders but just trying to get by this way for our first time out.
cuyahoga11 Posted October 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2015 I fold them and then put some packaging tape over it and punch a hole
faroozi Posted October 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 23, 2015 These tags are for check in only. They are a one time use, like check in airline luggage. Airline tags say your flight number and destination. These say your cruise and your room number. No reason to laminate them or make them permanent. You will want other luggage tags with your contact info so that you can identify them quickly or get contacted if they are lost.
faroozi Posted October 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2015 We just folded them and stapled and removed them once they were delivered on the ship.

Davey Wavey Posted October 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2015 Make sure you print an extra for each piece of luggage and throw it inside...just in case.

We -always- laminate ours because we've had several times where the paper tags have been ripped off, resulting in luggage delivery delays (3 day delay in delivering us a bag once). And FWIW the delayed bags have always had name/contact info, but for some reason it's never helped. We've ordered the Cruise Critic luggage tag holders for our next sailing. At 2 for $5, you can't go wrong!
munchkin4 Posted October 23, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 23, 2015 I trim off the sides and just use the middle portion with my cabin number on it. I write my name on both ends then fold in half and laminate. I punch a hole in the end and attach with zip ties. You can use clear tape or contact paper if you don't have access to a laminator. Not only does it last any rough handling but it stays nice for your scrap/memory book. Enjoy your first cruise!

Get the tag holder since you're going to get hooked on cruising anyway. :)
Raxter54 Posted October 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2015 We use the Cruise Critic luggage tags. But, we did replace the plastic "chain" with heavier zip ties to ensure they don't get pulled off. I've seen the porters being pretty rough with some of the luggage.... dioxide45 Posted October 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 24, 2015 We laminated our first tags too, never again. Seems like a waste to me. We tri-fold them lengthwise and then fold them in half over a handle and either staple or tape them, sometimes both. No issues to date. If we printed extras, we might put one on the top handle and another on the side.
kona_wahine Posted October 24, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 24, 2015 I bought the tag holders (here at cruise critic store) once we figured out first wouldn't be our last. :D. They really do work well.
Rare PrincessArlena'sDad Posted October 24, 2015 #13 Share Posted October 24, 2015 We got ours online from Favors by Serendipity. Great quality.
skrufy Posted October 24, 2015 #14 Share Posted October 24, 2015 We use the clear packing tape and staples. After folding, and sliding the tag onto your luggsge, we staple and then tape the two ends together.
mamawsnest Posted October 24, 2015 #15 Share Posted October 24, 2015 I use he CC tags. Even if you discover you don't like cruising  they work well for airlines.

TxShipShape Posted October 24, 2015 #17 Share Posted October 24, 2015 I tape the ends well then run it up the sides. Never a problem. A tip: :cool:if you staple run some tape over the staple at least the back side. Keeps who ever is handling the bag from getting pricked. This includes you also:eek:
Lil2Angelic Posted October 24, 2015 #18 Share Posted October 24, 2015 This thread has got me wondering..When you have to fly to get to port, do you put the cruise luggage tags on before or after your flight(s)? We normally drive to the port in SoCal, but next year we have to fly to Europe to board.
emod20 Posted October 24, 2015 #19 Share Posted October 24, 2015 I tend to think that my CC tags might tend to have the handlers maybe be a little more careful. Or it could backfire and they might think oh no let's get this idiot

Lil2Angelic Posted October 24, 2015 #21 Share Posted October 24, 2015 Princess - That was my thought..damage to the tags during fight(s). So does that mean you pack a stapler and perhaps some packing tape to attach them?
moniquet Posted October 24, 2015 #22 Share Posted October 24, 2015 As we stay the night before in a hotel we ask their Concierge to staple them.

I get luggage tags from the porters at the pier, and write our name and cabin number on them. It works just fine and I don't waste money on printing and all of that other stuff. We normally drive to the port in SoCal, but next year we have to fly to Europe to board. Put on right before you leave your hotel for the port. If not staying at a hotel or other place before boarding the ship, put them on after you are dropped at the pier, and after you have removed all airline tags.
