2 category free upgrade - hard to use?

I've already booked for a summer cruise on Princess. Today, I got a letter about a free two category upgrade. In the fine print, it says on new bookings only.

 

But I am so far from the cruise date that I'm still in 100% refundable territory... is a two category upgrade worth the hassle? I'd still be in an inside cabin.

Knowing Princess...I would almost bet if you call them they will make any adjustments you ask. Every time I have noticed a price drop after my booking, they refund the difference. That is prior to final payment. I can't imagine this being any different.
