seeseen Posted November 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2015 Not planning on taking the car seats with us. Will we be denied of ride by cabs at Cozumel?
wampuscat7 Posted November 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2015 This is a pretty hot topic on these boards. From what I've gathered, Mexican law requires car seats, but it is not enforced and many taxis do not have seat belts. Whether you want to take that risk is up to you. dsrdsrdsr Posted November 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2015 The only time I went to Cozumel, the taxi was smart and new and had seat belts. No doubt there are taxis without seat belts, but I think there are enough with them.
Sooner-Cruisers Posted November 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2015 They don't care about your child's safety. We travel with a lightweight car seat, it was only $39 at Walmart, cosco Scenera. I've also heard good things about Safety 1st Guide 65. We've done 2 cruises with a car seat, if a cab doesn't have seat belts out, we just catch the next one, no biggie. Have a great trip! lastminutemama Posted November 9, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 9, 2015 The choice is ultimately yours....but we traveled to cozumel on our last cruise and had no problem using our carseat in the cabs. I wouldnt drive my child unrestrained at home...so I definitely wouldn't let a stranger drive him unrestrained in a country I'm not familiar with. In my research, I found there are some bus-type shuttles at some ports where a car seat can't be used, but it would end up costing more to do those excursions and shuttles (especially to/from airport) than buy the car seat and take taxis. Plus it's pretty limiting. DH isn't excited about the idea of lugging the car seat around the beach, but honestly I don't think it's a big deal. I'm thinking of getting a carrier with straps like a backpack. Edited November 9, 2015 by wampuscat7
dforeigner Posted November 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2015 When we traveled with the little ones, we used the ride safer http://thenerdynurse.com/2014/07/ridesafer-2-the-safe-alternative-to-car-and-booster-seats.html
redxpanda Posted November 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2015 If you have money they will drive you. We found taxis in Cozumel to be quite safe and the main road is a straight shot down to the beach clubs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
OCruisers Posted November 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 14, 2015 You'll be able to use a taxi without child seats if you wish.
PatyCake Posted November 15, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2015 I live here in Cozumel. Taxi will take you without a car-seat. Children need to be in the back seat with seat belt. If it is an infant then who ever holds the child will sit in the back.

I know this is an older post but I'll be in Cozumel on Friday and want to use car seats in a taxi. I'm sure I may be one of the only ones who does this, but it's important to me. Was it hard to find taxis with seat belts? Will I need a locking clip? I have a scenera next and a booster to use.

rgg Posted July 6, 2016 #13 Share Posted July 6, 2016 This won't work for babies or toddlers, but for kids old enough for boosters, this is great. It's an inflatable booster. Deflates and rolls up when not in use. https://www.amazon.com/BubbleBum-Inflatable-Booster-Black-Silver/dp/B00AQYZCXK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467836670&sr=8-1&keywords=bubble+bum&refinements=p_89%3ABubbleBum So great for travel! aggieteacher10 Posted July 18, 2016 #17 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Do the taxi drivers get upset if they have to wait on you to install a car seat? Is the scenera mentioned above easy and quick to install?
Skippy Posted July 18, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 18, 2016 The Scenera is easy to install forward facing. Rear facing is a pain.
JLCMOM Posted October 27, 2016 #19 Share Posted October 27, 2016 What do you do with the car seat once you get where you are going??? Lug it with you???
greenfroggie Posted October 28, 2016 #20 Share Posted October 28, 2016 My dd was an infant when we went to MX. We brought our own and it made for something to rock her in when she wasn't falling asleep. We asked the cab co if they had seats and they ended up bringing a forward facing one for us. Now that would be okay but my wife insisted we had our own.
cj_one2000 Posted October 28, 2016 #21 Share Posted October 28, 2016 What do you do with the car seat once you get where you are going??? Lug it with you??? I was thinking the same thing. We're about to cruise in two weeks and we're already going to be bringing a lightweight collapsible stroller with us but if we were to bring her convertible car seat, that thing is heavy and there's no way it's going to fit under the stroller or convince anyone in our group to carry it! She's 2 so more than a booster seat is needed.
