We haven't been here in a while. This is very cool-- a little beer golf cart that comes around to sell water and beer. OMG! How could anything be more perfect! The only thing you have to get up for is food and the bathroom! Imagine if they start bringing the food around! Much better outcome than we had. Our experience was backwards. Cruise Director pumping everyone up about the "exciting day ahead in Coco Cay!!", and encouraging everyone to book their excursions. In the meantime, everyone knew that there was a tropical storm churning and that heavy rains and strong winds were expected the next day. Sure enough, we arrived in Coco Cay in blinding rain and thunder. We bobbed in front of the island for about half an hour and canceled. So we headed to Nassau where we spent...2 days [emoji34][emoji379]

I know and accept that ports are subject to change due to weather. But knowing that the weather reports were less than promising, I wonder why they kept pumping everyone up for the day ahead.

I love the "gun to head" emoji. I'm going to use it! Thanks! Btw I would agree to 2 days in Nassau.

We enjoy Nassau have been 3x, (2 days in port once) and still haven't done all the things we want to do there.

Coco Cay's ok but, it's too laid back. I agree with the OP food brought to you! Now I like that idea.. :)

I agree. 2 days in Nassau, means a full day at Atlantis(perhaps a full night? hmm?) and something else.

Cocoa cay might be nice(haven't been) but Nassau is a marvelous consolation prize imo.

That may be part of our problem. I wish we'd only been there 3 times. I've personally lost count. At least 10 times on cruise ships, 2 times on land vacations, and I don't even know how many times for work.

But with the recent travel warnings from the Department State deeming the crime rate in Nassau as critical, I've lost any desire to set foot there again.

From the Department of State's website:

CRIME: The criminal threat level for New Providence Island is rated as critical by the Department of State. New Providence Island has experienced a spike in crime that has adversely affected the traveling public, with a spate of violent criminal activity between 2009 and 2015. Armed robbery remains a major criminal threat facing U.S. citizens in The Bahamas. The U.S. Embassy has received multiple reports of tourists robbed at gunpoint or knifepoint in tourist locations in the downtown areas of Nassau, to include the cruise ship docks and the Cable Beach commerce areas; several of these incidents occurred during daylight hours. Burglaries, larcenies and “snatch-and-grab” crimes happen in Nassau and U.S. citizens have been victims of these crimes. The U.S. Embassy has received reports of assaults, including sexual assaults, in diverse areas such as in casinos, outside hotels, or on cruise ships. The Bahamas has the highest incidence of rape in the Caribbean according to a 2007 United Nations report on crime, violence, and development trends.

Thanks Gina for posting the pics....I see you made it to the back side of the island which is the berries! Best beach on the island IMHO.

We love Coco Cay, in 4 stops there, every day just like yours! We've never missed it. Can skip Nassau in a heartbeat, been there done that too many times....we stay aboard now.

But the snorkeling on the Cay is exceptional and we love our critters.

Guess we've been lucky.:D

Same here! We've always made it to Coco Cay. Love it and yesterday was a pretty spectacular day. The best ever. We've been there with in and off rain. And once in early December where it was really cool and windy.

We've also been to Nassau and we love it. I wouldn't be afraid to take the jitney to Cable beach and pay for a hotel pass. That's a great day! Heading to the Blue lagoon today!

That's so very sad, and really unfortunate for the people in Nassau who rely on tourism dollars. The last time we were there the excursion we booked through RCCL an of duty policeman was the driver.
