flatlander321 Posted December 8, 2015 #26 Share Posted December 8, 2015 The Orca Odysea also have superb upper viewing. Nothing like seeing the humpbacks from that level. :) Very well run company. I've stayed out with them, when they've had multiple tours, will depend on demand. I've sure the costs are huge. Perhaps, note the interest on your roll call? And other roll calls of the same day? We're on the only ship (Carnival Legend) scheduled to be in Juneau on May 19. I've already added it to the roll call for that cruise and Orca positively knows we want to do multiple watch trips that day :)
Lastdance Posted January 1, 2016 #27 Share Posted January 1, 2016 I am surprised that no one has mentioned Icy Strait Point for whales and sightings of brown bears(mom and cubs.) Try Glacier wind Charters and opt for the morning if you want to see the brown bears...
poss Posted January 2, 2016 #28 Share Posted January 2, 2016 I'm assuming bears are not likely in May? (Would love to find out otherwise.)
Budget Queen Posted January 2, 2016 #29 Share Posted January 2, 2016 I'm assuming bears are not likely in May? (Would love to find out otherwise.) Are you going to Denali park? Pretty likely to see brown bears after the Toklat shuttle opens 5/20. I've seen them several times on the Klondike Highway. Pure chance however and you to get lucky. Less likely out of Hoonah. poss Posted January 2, 2016 #30 Share Posted January 2, 2016 I was picking up on the post just above mine: bears at Icy Straight. Lastdance must have been speaking of later in the summer.

Out of Hoonah, those are browns, so you need a salmon run, to consistently see them. As early as you are going- before any runs, so less chance as I already mentioned.
