Kris74 Posted December 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2015 Hi, Im asking in behalf of a friend, who said that wasnt able to book children age 5 on a short cunard cruise and wondered is that with every cunard cruise. She booked another cruiseline then. Couldnt find the information on cunard web pages, so thought of asking this here :) Is it just with short cruises or with many cunard cruises, surely not. loubetti Posted December 7, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2015 This is from the Cunard web site: Are children welcome on Cunard? Children at least six months of age are welcome on Europe cruises, except Icelandic sailings where the minimum age is one year. For North America, Canada and Caribbean cruises, the minimum age is six months. For Transatlantic Crossings, Transpacific sailings, World and Exotic voyages, the minimum age is one year. We offer a full children’s programme, from nursery to teens, so families can share this special journey together. We provide supervised activities for children aged two to 17 years throughout the day as well as free group supervision in the evening. Our ships are excellent family destinations, because we offer a range of entertainment and activities for children, all of which is tailored to suit specific age groups. Our children’s clubs — The Play Zone, The Zone and The Teen Zone — are complimentary and offer the peace of mind of knowing that your children are well looked after and can socialise with other young people. These clubs are open on a daily basis and feature secure entry systems to allow authorised entry. There are ‘sign in’ and ‘sign out’ procedures for the 2-12 year olds, including a registration form which must be completed for every child before they attend the programme. We recommend that you attend one of the initial registration sessions on embarkation day so your child can be registered from the first session. On all our ships we offer a night nursery for children aged six months to 23 months, which is available from 6.00pm to 11.00pm. We will give you a pager should we need to contact you. The night nursery is free of charge and is offered on a first come, first served basis. A child travelling as the second guest in a stateroom requires payment of the published per-person fare. In order to provide adequate activities and facilities for our younger guests, the number of children on a specific cruise may be limited; please contact Cunard for details. Guests under the age of 18 are not permitted to gamble or enter the casino. Guests who are under 18 years of age are not permitted to purchase or consume alcohol on board. While in U.S. waters, Cunard Line enforces and abides by the U.S. legal drinking age of 21 years.
Kris74 Posted December 7, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Thanks. So there is some mix up and children over 1 year should be able to sail with every cruise? Maybe it was some sort of special cruise then? Edited December 7, 2015 by Kris74
Minz Posted December 7, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 7, 2015 I have booked my child with Cunard three times now and have not had a problem. Suggest you call them to find out what is wrong. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Morgans Posted December 7, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2015 The numbers of children on board are limited - it's possible that the cruise had achieved its quota when your friend tried to book. This usually happens within the school holidays and you have to book pretty quickly.
GUT2407 Posted December 7, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 7, 2015 Unless they've reached the limit (basically in terms if kids activities) there may be some mistake.
john watson Posted December 7, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Most cruise lines operating children's clubs set a limit on the total number of children in each age range on their cruises. This situation was advised to me regarding a P&O cruise; luckily we had booked in time to get in on a discounted half-term cruise. This is because the clubs can only accommodate a set number of children. The alternative is to book in unlimited numbers and then have the parents race each day to see if they can get their children in on the day with queuing early on and the overspill going round with parents. I should imagine Cunard's clubs are designed for smaller numbers than most. One of the Youth Team told me that the previous Transatlantic, QM2, had just one child on board, obviously the other extreme. If this is the problem you may find that bookings reopen nearer sail date due to cancellations from passengers including children in their party. When child bookings get to the capacity of the various age facilities, they become restricted. They have always done a good job managing children and the facilities on board in order that all might have a good cruise. I have sailed Cunard since the age of two.........a few years back. It was transport back then and nowadays more of a holiday. More people take young children on these type holidays than in years past so, imho, it is a good thing that Cunard manages the numbers of children on board. :D
Kris74 Posted December 8, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted December 8, 2015 That explains it, she told me that when trying to book there appeared a text that 3-7 age kids cannot be booked. So I guess that age was then fully booked. Thank you all for clearing this for us 😊
