I agree 100% - Evening Chic, allowing designer jeans, imho, does not diminish the special flavor of a ' dress up' night in a beautiful venue with great service. It is absolutely a demographic adjustment that happens with generational changes, on many levels ( not just dress!)

 

I think the key words are 'skinny' and 'chic'. Too much emphasis on 'jeans'.

 

What I find missing from the debate of whether designer jeans is a down grade and the beginning of the end of the 'Modern Luxury' feeling of the Celebrity brand, is how dress is partly dependent on your body type! Some of us, no matter what our age, simply do not look good in jeans! Hopefully those that don't, won't. I do believe that the qualifier of 'chic' helps self-select appropriate dress!

 

And those that do look good in designer/skinny/chic jeans- go for it! Hopefully you wear Ferragamo and Jimmy Choo shoes with Hermes watches and by virtue of your chicness I am elevated to another level of sophistication that I am not often exposed to in a small town. I feel more special just enjoying the way you look, while I wear simple black (body slimming!) long skirts and tops!

 

And I welcome the young professionals on my Celebrity cruises, even in jeans, as I welcome the opportunity to meet all interesting, educated, well-traveled, diverse people on all our cruises. I just hope those chic young 30-somethings find those of us old enough to be their parents interesting shipmates as well!

What documents? My Cruise Contract package for next week's December 21 doesn't mention dress at all and that's the only cruise document I've received. The Celebrity website FAQ section is pretty clear about the new arrangement and the complete demise of the formal night designation.

Wow! As a 35-year-old woman presently sitting at home wearing designer skinny jeans--which, by the way, are well on their way out of style--I have to say this is one of the most resoundingly offensive discussions I've encountered in quite some time.

 

My husband is an interesting, well-traveled, accomplished individual who also happens to be a chubby dude with a beard. As near as I can tell the opinion of his fellow passengers is that he is automatically a schlub unfit to share a table with them because he finds wearing a suit uncomfortable and unappealing. Me? I've put in a lot of time in barre class and I'm going to wear short dresses that show my legs and don't look like they would fit in at prom 15 years ago. Deal with it.

 

But oh how it's delightful to know how other people perceive us. It sure is a good thing that we too have the money to pay for suite-class rooms and fancy wine packages and casino gambling and expensive clothing in the shops or else they'd never even let us on the ship, or at least that's what many of you seem to be suggesting. We are clearly destroying the atmosphere by not wasting our time and energy maliciously judging everyone around us.

Good for you. After 25 years of three piece suits and then 10 more of hosting several banquets a year in a penguin suit I have already thought a sports coat and tie looked just fine. i do not wear football jerseys, t-shirts with profane or rude statements or shorts to dinner in the MDR or any reasonably upscale restaurant at home.

So, do you wear socks? [emoji6] - I'm sure this was rhetorical... but Yes and No! No socks are my favorite part of being a Floridian, after spending my first 18 years in the northeast.

- We look forward to the same opportunities to meet diverse people when we cruise. On our RCCL Mediterranean honeymoon several years back we found ourselves enjoying our time with another couple 20 years our senior, and had to find excuses as to why we did not want to head back to the room of our new our peer-aged friends to enjoy their free smuggled-on booze.

 

I do very much appreciate your comment and perspective. Hopefully the more experienced X cruisers onboard are like you, and are willing to give my wife and I a chance on our upcoming cruise, chic dress and all.
