Delta@ JFK. Will I have enough time?

Calling all experts! This is the first time I need to make a connection so I am hoping for some advise. Delta flight from BCN arrives JFK at 12:30 pm. We are flying Business. I then need a Delta flight to ATL then onto MYR. I have two choices. 1. Leaves JFK @ 3:30 pm to ATL with a 2 hr 36 min layover. 2. Leaves JFK @ 5:15 to ATL with a 53 min layover. OR I could visit the kid in NYC, have a nice dinner with wine and fly out the next day. Advise please.

i would choose option one, or spend the night. I think they are all doable.

Thank you! I was leaning towards #1 thinking 3 hrs should be ok between flights and customs.
