Javacruiser Posted December 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2015 I'm looking at an inside cabin (P323) that is below the casino and near the Piazza. I'm not real sensitive to noise but if the area will have excessive noise from the casino or Piazza, I may consider moving elsewhere. I love the idea of being in the location because of proximity to the Piazza as long as the noise level is reasonable. Opinions from those who have stayed in cabins here will be appreciated. Thanks! I have had that exact cabin. No noise from the sources you mention. Every once in a while, there was some mechanical noise from the deck below. I would certainly book the same cabin again. Very handy for coffee at the i.cafe first thing in the morning.
srpilo Posted December 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Not your exact cabin, but we did 18 days on the Ruby right across the hall in P316 an outside cabin, (Venice to FLL) and had no sound issues what so ever from above, in fact I love that general location on all the Grand class ships for the close proximity to the IC and all the Piazza activities Enjoy the Ruby Srpilo
L&S80 Posted December 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2015 We've been in P327 & P338 & will be in P326...............love that deck.........no noise from Piazza or Casino.........enjoy............... Sharon
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted December 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I love these plaza location interior cabins. Have not had it on the Ruby, but other ships. Location, location, location. On the Crown, her sister ship, I was disappointed that the passageway opened up to the IC but the door was secured at night. I prefer the dead end hall. No elevators to fight crowds. Everything is nearby. You can take the aft elevators to the Lido deck.
metairiegal Posted December 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) There probably will be noise. Go with your gut. Edited December 21, 2015 by metairiegal
wblynch Posted December 21, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I was on the Ruby Princess in November. The casino is bad and dead. There should be no noise from the casino above you. There is likely to be no noise inside the casino either.

I was upgraded to this cabin on the Star Princess in August to Alaska and thought it would be great. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I heard banging and noises all night and the DJ that was set up in the Piazza was going strong after 11 PM. I tend to turn in earlier on Alaska cruises so this was particularly annoying! Worse sleeps I have had at sea. During the day the location was ideal - at night, not so much  I had sailed many years ago on the Grand Prince in an outside cabin (P336) and had no issues so I was caught off guard.......... This has me concerned:eek:. I have a P326 on the Emerald reserved, and am now second guessing. Can you elaborate more on what was going on in the piazza to make it that noisy? Normally rehersals are in the Princess Theater, or some dedicated music spot. Could it have been what I call the "Champagne waterfall party"? Just trying to figure out if this Piazza noise was particular to your specific voyage, or an all the time problem... (I had one of those cabins on the Sapphire 10 years ago, and I didn't hear Piazza/Atrium noise then. I realize the International Cafe HAS made the piazza/Atrium much more busy since then.) (I had one of those cabins on the Sapphire 10 years ago, and I didn't hear Piazza/Atrium noise then. I realize the International Cafe HAS made the piazza/Atrium much more busy since then.) Honestly, I would have had to get dressed and go out again to see what was going on and I didn't. I tried to make the best of it with earplugs but the champagne waterfall events that I remember didn't last very long and they didn't seem to be that loud. I could be wrong though since I haven't attended one in a long time. I think a lot of the cruise lines have recently extended their entertainment venues to include the centrum/piazza areas of the ship. In my case it was 3 nights of very loud DJ type music and it lasted after 11pm - one night until around midnight. On the Serenade of the Seas we saw this in October 2014 to the Med but it was quiet by 10 PM so it wasn't an issue even though we were only 5 doors off the Centrum. So, like you I had never had a problem until P323 on the Star :(

You explained very clearly what your experience was, especially pertaining to the loud DJ type music. I can't really understand why they are doing this, what with all the dedicated venues available on the Star (which I have been on several times, but never on Plaza). Kinda ruins most of our perceptions as to that section of Plaza being a sure thing quiet area.:(I AM a "late to bed" person, so may take my chances... Edited December 21, 2015 by NorcalGuy spelling! I am concerned about the loud DJ music in the Piazza (used to be called Atrium) that LEtue experienced on the Star. However, both you and LEtue are in agreement that most noise abates between 10pm and 11pm. That would probably be OK with me. I DO love the location so close to many things. Anyone ever noticed that when one goes to the Plaza forward elevator, it usually arrives there EMPTY:D! No waiting.
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted December 22, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 22, 2015 Booked P318, P322, P326, P338 for some of my closest friends and myself on an October cruise on the Crown Princess. There was no DJ in the Piazza. There was, almost nightly, Los Brillantes (a Mexican Trio) that played okay music. Once behind closed doors, you couldn't hear them. One flight up and forward is the Princess Theater lower entrance. No steps midship and you have the International Cafe/Coffee Bar/etc. Shops are on the upper floors. And one of the best perks is the forward elevator that is steps away. Never a wait, never crowds of people. It does look like the Ruby has the passageway doors that open out to the Piazza (which are closed at night). It is not a constant flow of people, but enough to make it noticeable. Only problem you will encounter is if you are scheduled for dinner in the Botticelli Dining Room on Deck 6. You will have to walk up two flights of stairs, walk to the aft, and THEN down a flight of stairs. I was fortunate enough to have the Maitre 'd move my party of 7 (all elderly) to DaVinci. As I have mentioned before, it is one of the best interior locations on any ship since I rarely go up to the Lido Deck.

JoJo427 Posted December 27, 2015 #16 Share Posted December 27, 2015 Thanks for all of the great replies..... Now I need to decide We had cabin P318 and we heard a little noise from the casino but the worst noise was from the art gallery. Every night it sounded like something was banging in to the walls. If you like the Plaza deck, I would choose one near the front under the theatre.

You could hear noise nightly from there and yes it did seem like they were pounding on the walls. :( It wasn't constant though and once I fell asleep - they never woke me up. My sensitivity is to the bass in music and when it is loud it seems to reverberate around in your head making it hard to fall asleep
