kerimac Posted December 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2015 We're traveling on the Volendam from Singapore on Mar 1. We will be in Denpasar on March 16th. I'm wondering if there are any other quilters out there interested in going to the fabric district in Denpasar.
Alberta Quilter Posted December 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) You should probably ask this question on your roll call as then you'll be asking people who will actually be there with you on that date. I'm sorry that I won't be there to join you! Enjoy your excursion! Here's the link to your roll call: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2095788 Edited December 30, 2015 by Alberta Quilter
janmcn Posted December 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2015 You may want to check to see if my info is accurate, but I was told that the Bali fabrics we know and love are made especially for quilters and exported as such. What we would find in the shops there are not the same quality as we are used to.
kerimac Posted January 1, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted January 1, 2016 Oh, I know. I'd heard that. But still its fun to see what's there. When we were living in Buenos Aires last Jan, Feb and Mar, I found some fun iridescent polyester fabric to finish a piece. They don't do ANY quilting down there! But what a riot the fabric district was.
Rare 1of4 Posted January 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Poking about fabric shops when we travel is one of my favourite things to do. I have seen tours by Jenny Byers of Bali and the batik factories but they are probably her factories. I use weird fabrics too in landscape quilting. I found the weirdest green fabric that nobody could identify the content right after Halloween. I have been using it as northern lights. I would join you in a heartbeat but I am homebound for now. Enjoy the hunt!
Bowie MeMe Posted January 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Dean of Bali and his sidekick Freddie were great tour guides last Feb. when we spent a week in Bali before Azamara cruise. He was reasonable and as a photographer understands all types of artistic expression. (I love fabric art!) The best thing about Freddie and Dean is they know lots of ways to get through the dreadful traffic and they do whatever it is that you want to do or they give you a great best of tour. We did both.
