nhslb46 Posted December 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2015 I doubt it would be a big deal information wise, but you've already printed out a whole piece of paper and folding it will increase the layers and make the tag more sturdy. Elaine5715 Posted December 31, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2015 It says not to cut because otherwise folks would cut off the pertinent information and wonder why their luggage is missing.
SadieN Posted December 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2015 It's stronger when it's folded into thirds. If you're putting the tag into a holder the extra bulk is unnecessary
butterflys Posted December 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We use luggage tags. If you are using the plastic luggage tag holders. We cut ours all the time so they will fit in the luggage tag holders. We use one on each side of the tag so the information is always visible and have never had an issue. The "do not cut" instructions are for those who are not using plastic holders.

Just don't understand what the big deal is about cutting them. Because it is part of the "tag law" very similar to the "label law" (where it is a crime to remove the label from pillows and mattresses.) Just don't cut the tag and you'll be fine.;)
BiggDawg Posted December 31, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) No worries, really. ;) Just go to the website. Click "Manage" your reservation and click "Print cruise documents." You can always reprint them. Edited December 31, 2015 by BiggDawg
tinykygal Posted December 31, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Sturdiness. I usually print ours on card stock. We have never failed to receive our luggage. I do watch the porter load it on the cart. Last RCCL cruise a passenger never received their luggage. I did find mine in the hall a few doors down. I grabbed it. brownwright Posted December 31, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Cruise critic just had a sale on the tag holders 4 for 7 dollars. Check out store. The holders are so much easier than folding or self laminating with mailing tape. Plus it looks better
stargate fan Posted December 31, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We cut our luggage tags when it says not to? It has all the info needed showing. Just don't understand what the big deal is about cutting them. I ALWAYS cut off the part of the paper that says, "Do Not Cut." I then fold the info part in half and cover both sides in clear packing tape. I punch a hole in the top and we attach the tags to our suitcases using zip ties at the hotel right before we leave for the port. Thankfully the luggage tag police have never caught us. Phew! I'd hate to think what would happen if they did. :D

Why would I pay $7 for tag holders when the packing tape, which I already have in the house for mailing packages to people, costs nothing extra. As far as looking better, who cares? cruiseonthebrain Posted December 31, 2015 #16 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Or, get REAL tags from the porters!!! Do the porters only have the standard tags or do they have tags for faster to the fun, elite status folks, etc.? I was wondering whether to use the paper ones or just wait but I didn't know if they would have the priority tags at the port.
KiwiFunCruiser Posted December 31, 2015 #17 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We just laminate them so they don't break, if you don't have a laminator then they cost about 2 bucks each at a print shop.
