RCI credit card fee.

I was speaking to someone earlier today and they said RCI are one charging a 1.5% credit card fee. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Hi there I just paid for our cruise on Legend of the Seas using an Aussie credit card and incurred a 3% international transaction fee. :eek:

International transaction fees are common on most cards, 28 degrees cards do not attract that fee. As for a Credit card fee of 1.5% charged by RCI, I will find out next month, but this is becoming more common with retail outlets.:D

You need to know if it was the bank or the cruise company. Many banks charge the fee as has been mentioned by Mic. Also many travel agents charge a credit card fee.

 

How did your friend book and pay? Direct to RCI or a travel agent, and maybe through which bank? Generally the bank fee for the international transaction is more like 3%. (our experience through NAB - We get no fees like that with our Citibank Plus card)

 

It is possible that this is a new fee. Always worth knowing what fees might be lurking.

They booked direct with RCI. They said that RCI charged the fee.

They just clarified that they booked through a timeshare agency and not Royal direct as they had previously stated.

When I paid for my cruise on 4th January, there was no fee.

My CBA MasterCard does not charge an International transaction fee either.:)

I did see elsewhere that someone said that their travel agent was now passing on the RCI 1.5% fee. Is that the same situation?

 

I personally have never had a credit card fee charged by RCI. Or by Celebrity which is owned by RCI. Have done two deposits in the last few weeks and used my Citibank Plus Visa and there was no fees at all charged by either RCI or the credit card.

on a side note if you make a payment direct to Princess no charge for using a debit card but 1.5% for a credit card

Paid my deposit for our Ovation cruise back in June and there was no credit card fee charged then.

Agencies will charge their own fees, sometimes additional to the supplier e.g. cruise line fees. These may also vary by card type.
