Melissa at Mohair Meadows Posted January 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Is it worthwhile shopping for Cellphones in St. Martin or Aruba for a Samsung Galaxy S6 or Note 5 Smart Phone? Can anyone estimate the savings or the cost? Thanks. Melissa
Rare Hlitner Posted January 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2016 You might save a little money, and lose more in the long run. Many of the phones (cameras, electronics, etc) sold in the Caribbean are discounted because they are what is known as "Grey Market" merchandise. Although genuine, these items are generally purchased in Asia and are not intended for sale in North America. This means that the manufacturers warranty is often not included or honored. So if that phone breaks a few days after you purchase it....good luck in getting it repaired or replaced! Hank
sail7seas Posted January 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Exactly. Electronics and watch guarantees for items sold 'duty free' in the Caribbean are not always honored by U.S. companies.

It will be cheaper than buying one at store in your area, and will come with a manufacturer's warranty.
