We are going in 5 weeks, what was the weather like? Should I be packing both sorts of clothes winter and summer? thanks :)

The weather was between 27 and 29 degrees in all ports. Definitely not windy Wellington. Beautiful weather!!

The weather was between 27 and 29 degrees in all ports. Definitely not windy Wellington. Beautiful weather!!

 

My advice is to pack layers, a rain jacket, a warm hat and gloves, just in case. To have 27-29 degrees across all ports in NZ is the exception, not the rule. Some years ago I was touring in the South Island in March. On one day the temperature never got above 9 degrees with rain and a howling gale, but we did have great snow on the Southern Alps after that.

Yes, the weather can turn very quickly in NZ and with large differences in temperature from one day to the next.
