tallyho8 Posted January 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2016 We have the UBP for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and I was wondering if we get a soft drink in a glass of ice or if we can get it in a can, preferably unopened?
Vacationlover2 Posted January 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2016 We were able to get unopened root beer in cans because they had no soda guns for that flavor. This was on the Breakaway.
ColinIllinois Posted January 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2016 It's mainly fountain soda.
Rare KeithJenner Posted January 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2016 Officially, no. In practice, probably. I've been given cans a few times when asking for soft drinks. They usually open them, but if you ask they may give it unopened, especially if you know the server.
hawkeyetlse Posted January 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2016 In my experience they are pretty strict about it, but I guess if you ask every time, once in a while they will say "yes". Last time we ordered a ginger ale, which they only had in cans, and they refused to give us the unopened can and poured some into a glass. And then we were charged for the can.
Starflyr3 Posted January 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2016 Depends on who is serving it. I had luck last year in the buffet with Pepsi (we had the soda package), but not anywhere else.
canadianeh934 Posted January 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2016 They are not to give you an a can period open or not.....but lots will. Most bars are fountain soda....but at the buffet they use cans or bottles and I asked about getting a bottle of diet Pepsi and was successful on several occasions. No charge occurred on my bill...I had the UBP.
tallyho8 Posted January 30, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted January 30, 2016 That seems so ridiculous. I have had hot cans of soda poured into glasses of ice and they were so watered down tasting that I couldn't stand them. This is my first time with a beverage package. I was always able to get cans of soda before when I was buying them but then when they talk you into buying the expensive beverage package they won't allow you to get a cold can of soda. Now I am wondering if I will be able to get a cold can of beer or will they just pour some in a glass?
Valen9 Posted January 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2016 Now I am wondering if I will be able to get a cold can of beer or will they just pour some in a glass? Since they sell many of them by the bottle, I'm not sure if they even HAVE cans. :)
Rare KeithJenner Posted January 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2016 That seems so ridiculous. I'm not really sure what the relevance of the can being cold is. Every bottle or can I've ever been served on NCL has come out of a chiller. As has been said, very few beers come in cans anyway. Most are in bottles. They will happily give you the bottle rather than pour it for you (that's how I have them). Regarding cans, you asked if you could get an UNOPENED can. All drinks they give you on the UBP should be opened (I assume to stop people from collecting up drinks to give to friends). The soda is specified as being fountain soda, but I have found in practice that many places give you it from cans. We don't drink much soda, but in my experience we've got cans as much, or more, than from the tap. Perhaps it's just where we go. In my experience, you are likely to find somewhere where you will be given a can. That can will probably be opened though.
Rare KeithJenner Posted January 30, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2016 Since they sell many of them by the bottle, I'm not sure if they even HAVE cans. :) They have a few. Boddingtons is in cans of they have it, and I've seen Guinness in either. I've also seen Fosters cans. That may be it though.

Froggitt Posted January 30, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 30, 2016 Depends also on the ship, and the bar on that ship!!! Star (and I assume Dawn) most of the bars dont have fountain soda, so they pour cans. Just as easy to give you cans.
JMHAM1 Posted January 31, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2016 NCL is still all Pepsi products, right?? Wondering if I will need to bring my beloved Coke with me or if I can skip doing that since I have the UBP.

don't-use-real-name Posted January 31, 2016 #18 Share Posted January 31, 2016 NCL is still all Pepsi products, right?? Wondering if I will need to bring my beloved Coke with me or if I can skip doing that since I have the UBP. NCL has ZERO Coke (products) or maybe better stated as all inclusive Pepsi. Things go better with Coke so I don't know how much better Pepsi is ! And then for the affinity drinker - the abomination of Jack and Pepsi !#%@&! Regarding Coca Cola bring your own - you don't need to bring a lot - at each port of call find a vendor and replenish your supply. TATL and other longer cruises plan on more. tallyho8 Posted January 31, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Excuse me, I'm old-fashioned. I still call it a bottle if it is breakable and a can if it is made out of metal. ;)
Fred Quimby Posted February 1, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 1, 2016 why not bring a 12 pack onboard?
tallyho8 Posted February 2, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted February 2, 2016 why not bring a 12 pack onboard? Because I already paid for the beverage package. I don't want to have to pay twice for the same thing.
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 2, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Because I already paid for the beverage package. I don't want to have to pay twice for the same thing. Although if what you want is unopened cans of soda then you haven't actually paid for that. What you have paid for is fountain soda. If that isn't what you want, and the potential of not getting the unopened cans is a problem, then maybe bringing some cans on may be the answer. Rare dshefter Posted February 2, 2016 #23 Share Posted February 2, 2016 No cans of soda or bottled water when it comes to the UBP. All fountain soda, and it is Pepsi. Did see some cans of beer. Guinness, Fosters.
