Swimming in May?

This coming May 23 we will be on the Carnival Inspiration out of Long Beach.

I have been looking at the past history of weather online for California and Mexico and it says average of 70. Where I'm from that is decent, but not really swimming conditions.

I will be taking my kids and just wondering if anyone has taken this itinerary in May and found people utilizing the kids slides/swim area waterworks and/or pool areas? I know the weather can change from year to year...but just wondering how often do passengers utilizing the pools on the ship in May? Thanks
