Diving Recommendation Needed

Hi, I'm writing on behalf of my husband, who has taken up scuba diving. We are going on the Grandeur in April and 2 of the ports with good diving are Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Royal Caribbean has not responded to his emails about requirements for their diving shore excursions ... so he would like to go through an outside company. He needs to be supervised by a PADI professional on his dives -- that is the level he is at. Could you please recommend dive companies in either Grand Cayman or Cozumel that he might be able to use? Thanks.

So he is not certified yet? Just done the first section? (FYI - My husband is an instructor and we have both been diving 16+ years) I highly recommend you look at the scuba excursions through the ship. They should have something that will work for him.

If not, you are going to need to contact a dive op that will take him with an instructor, and they are going to need to know your arrival time and schedule someone to dive with him.

Cozumel... you are going to be very limited. I would check with Scuba with Allison, Dive with Martin. Can't think of any others off hand. The cruise ships all use SandDollar Sports for excursions. There are also a few independent companies (Shore Excursioneer, etc) that can arrange a private shore dive with an instuctor.

Grand Cayman....look at Eden Rock dive shop and Summit House. Send them an e-mail.

As I said before... I would recommend you try to book through the your ship first. They might have a small group doing the same thing, so might be easier and cheaper overall.

In Cayman, go with Cayman Turtle Divers. Great guys, good gear, boat isnt crowded / overly big.

In Cozumel there are MANY dive companies, and I never heard anyone speak ill of any of them. I have used Deep Blue in Cozumel, and I am using them again next week. Stay away from the bigger ones that cater to the cruises, they tend to put upwards of 15-20 people on a dive group and thats crazy. Scuba with Allison and Dive with Martin are also good as mentioned above.

I disagree with the poster above, I no longer book diving through the ship anymore. Too many divers in each group, not as a good of a dive. go with someone off ship, you will get a better experience.

Their shop is small and not very shiny/glamours, but the boats are small which makes the dive groups small (4-6 plus dive master). The dive masters there are very knowledgeable.

Poster above mentions Eden Rock, I would not use them. Thier boats are too big, too many people.... catering to excursions.

I dove with Living the Dream divers in Grand Cayman the week I was there. They take no more than 6-8 per trip and will give you plenty of attention. They do fill up in advance so book early. There are many many great dive ops on GC, though, so you have lots of options.

Eden Rock runs boats? Most folks know Eden for SHORE diving, altho plenty of boat excursions stop there as well . . .

IF DH is SCUBA DIVER certified (not Open Water) and needs an escorted dive, it is easy to arrange an escorted shore dive at either of these locations where a nice dive can be had at depths within the "SCUBA DIVER" limits.
