ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #51 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Manhattan Dining Room Thursday Dinner Menus We opted to try the Shanghai Noodle Bar for dinner this night. I'm just starting to study quantum mechanics in preschool, so I haven’t quite mastered being in two places at once (oh, the possibilities) yet. So, no Manhattan room pics again. But here are the Thursday menus (and stay tuned for my review of Shanghai).
ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #52 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Manhattan Dining Room Friday Dinner and Dessert Menus I needed some "alone time" and wanted to try one of the specialty restaurants without mom bemoaning the price of everything, so I sent mom to the Manhattan room without me and hit up Ocean Blue later (review and photos coming). Photo credit: mom (turns out your photos aren't as blurry when you're not juggling the camera with one hand and catching a flying crayon mid-throw with the other). ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #53 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Manhattan Room Friday Dinner and Dessert Pics Mixed Greens with Hass Avocado Salad (mom's always resistant to salad, but she loved this one!) Involtini Di Melanzane (or eggplant thingy to mom) Pistachio creme brûlée (Mom wished she would have ordered two of these. The first one was weird, but she's pretty sure she would have liked the second one.)
ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #54 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Manhattan Dining Room Saturday Dinner Menus My dad’s always asking me, “what’s your mood?” Well he didn’t have to ask on this night, he just put on his noise canceling headphones and face shield. It was the last night of our cruise and I was GLUM. I also forgot to take a photo of the dessert menu (“YOU’RE FIRED” –President of the United States [if another famous H, Hulk Hogan, gets his way]). Actually we had a lovely final dinner with a table by the window. We’ll miss you Manhattan Room, but we’ll see you again this summer (we have a big extended family vacation planned on the Breakaway in July – I can’t wait to go bar hopping with my cousins). ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #59 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Hi! Your pictures are really great. What type of camera are you using? Thanks! Due to the lighting conditions, I find taking good photos on a ship really challenging! My camera is a Canon EOS 50D. The only lens I brought on this trip was my EF28-135mm. Lightroom is the editing software I use (although I didn't do much editing on this batch of photos).
ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #60 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Curious about the shower curtain trick. What type of hooks do you use? If you Google "magnetic hooks," a bunch of options will come up. I used these: They were under $10. I also used a cheap shower curtain liner. You just loop the hooks through the top of the curtain and stick them to the ceiling (the ceilings on all ships we've been on have been metal). ann41 Posted March 11, 2016 #61 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Love the review! one question tho. On some of the menus I see the words (plated to perfection )with prices listed on the foods. Are those menus in the main dining room where you can pick that entree and pay an additional price? I know in the speacilties resturants there was a fee but didn't know they had Different choices with prices in the main dining area .

ProfCruise Posted March 11, 2016 Author #63 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Savor and Taste When I hear “Savor” and “Taste,” I think of the “hip” new foodie restaurants popping up all over Pittsburgh where you have to sit on a tree branch at a long table full of strangers, drinking infused water served out of mason jars that, let’s face it, looks like pee, eating a tiny pile of something plated with a three dots of sauce and a few sprigs of micro greens. Can I just get some perogies and a giant sandwich topped French fries and coleslaw? Anyway, Savor and Taste are the other two main dining rooms and are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They’re like the Olson twins -- one wears her giant sunglasses in black and the other in tortoise shell, but they’re basically identical (with slightly different hours). They’re located across the hall from each other with a bar in between (so mom never made it to either one of them). Savor One of my favorite parts of our cruise was eating breakfast at Savor each day – even though I was skeptical at first. At home mom makes me eat “gooies” (that’s just a fancy word for oatmeal with a bunch of gross healthy stuff in it) every day, so you can imagine my disappointment when I saw “oatmeal” on the menu. But I ordered mom a greyhound (or 2 or 6…just keep ‘em comin) and ended up with, like, chocolate pancakes with a side of waffles. Seriously though, there was never a wait and we had a nice relaxing and delicious breakfast each morning. “H” approved! Here’s the breakfast menu. There were some rotating specials, but otherwise it stayed the same every day. Stay tuned for breakfast pics!
Megali Posted March 11, 2016 #64 Share Posted March 11, 2016 You're from Pittsburgh? My husband and I went to school there (Pitt & Chatham.) We live on the opposite side of the state now, but want to take our boys out there both to visit friends and so we can see how much has changed since last in town. And we are so gonna be rocking your early dining tip for the window seating. Well, we'd likely be eating that early anyway since they'll likely want to do evening Splash Academy stuff. What were your thoughts on the Splash Academy, H?
sayla27 Posted March 11, 2016 #65 Share Posted March 11, 2016 Thank you for the photo. When we were on the Jewel we had the room divider...doesn't exist on Breakaway so this is a great solution.

You just pay extra for these items in the main dining room. We never tried them, but like the option (since the steakhouse is wasted on mom and I, but sometimes dad likes to try a nicer steak). ProfCruise Posted March 12, 2016 Author #73 Share Posted March 12, 2016 TASTY FOR LUNCH (read as a yell) Get it, because we ate at “Taste?” It’s St. Patty’s Day weekend and I’ve already had 6 green beers (burp), so I wouldn’t count on my jokes getting any better (louder, but not better). I have a season pass to the zoo, so the buffet was never a priority for us. We wanted to try some alternative places for lunch, so we tried Taste. The menu doesn’t change and there wasn’t really anything on there that appealed to my sophisticated palate (why would you ruin hummus by pairing it with tomatoes?) and only one vegetarian entree for mom, but it was okay and, as usual, there wasn’t a wait. Here’s the menu: Pics coming...
