shutuph Posted March 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2016 I wondered if the Alaskan ports have tours offered when you leave the ship. (similar to the Caribbean cruise ports.) Is it cheaper and/or negotiable the prices should we wait until we are in dock. I am wondering about Juneau and Ketchikan. Thanks
Rare Keith1010 Posted March 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Some do but I wouldn't do this. The more popular tours book up in advance. And it really depends on what type of tour you want. My recommendation is to decide what you want to do well in advance in each port and book it ahead of time. Keith
Rare Coral Posted March 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) Honestly, it is not like the Caribbean. Some of the top excursions do book up and are not available the day of. Some you can definitely buy in port. You should post which excursions you are interested in and we can tell you. You will not save a lot of money by booking independent (though I still do because they are better tours). You most likely will get a better guide and a smaller group but Alaskan excursions are expensive (compared to Caribbean). rcnut21 Posted March 25, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2016 You might want to look into a fishing excursion in Ketchikan with Oasis Alaska Charters. Ketchikan is known as the Salmon Capital of the world. We used Oasis Alaska Charters in Ketchikan to take us fishing and we had a great time. They are very good at what they do and Mark and JoAnn Andrew are the best. Captain Murray was our captain and man did he make it a lot of fun. shutuph Posted April 4, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted April 4, 2016 We are debating on a whale watching in Juneau. I guess that was the excursion I wondered if we could book in Port. Any opinions on whale watching and mendenhall. We are in Port for 5 hours. Would we have time to walk to the waterfall at mendenhall? Are we better off to do mendenhall on our own and leave time to wander Juneau. Thanks
eandj Posted April 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 5, 2016 Since you have only 5 hours in port I wouldn't count on booking anything at the stop. Book iwhat you want at home to make sure you fit in a tour schedule with plenty of time to reboard.
