kt6453 Posted April 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2016 Looking for anyone with experience? Liarsville with gold panning and salmon bake Vs Klondike Gold Fields I know the cruise line offers tour to Klondike but we would rather go by ourselves and likely eat lunch there, etc. Anyone done this? Taken taxi there? Advice? Traveling with two adults, 3yo and 7 yo sons. Thank you!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
bugze380 Posted April 18, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2016 I'm interested in doing Klondike on our own too (will have my 1 yo daughter with us). I've called and emailed them multiple times and haven't gotten a return. Anyone having better luck?

shadowmeboy Posted April 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2016 We have done the Best of Skagway. It included the train, Liarsville, salmon bake lunch and gold panning. We had a blast. Check out my pictures in my signature line below for Skagway. This will give you an idea about the excursion.
bonvoyagie Posted April 19, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2016 There is a restored dredge that allow you to "pan" some gold after the tour. It is at 40 below. Usually one person gets a bag with a known nugget - we did this back in 03 prior to the 40 below experience - then it was just the dredge. They also say that if you are a fan of Gold Rush - the dredge here is the sister to the one Tony Beets bought two seasons ago.
Rare Crew News Posted April 19, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2016 I did the Liarsville stop with Salmon Bake and gold panning a few years ago. Listening to the stories of the Gold Rush was very enlightening and not taught in my schooling in the USA. Everybody finds a tiny flake of gold in the "prepared" gold pans and the water in the sluice is really cold. Food was good. Learned about Nordstrom and Frumpf (Donald Trumps grandfather if I remember correctly) outfitters. "Call of the Wild" was written in Skagway based on stories that the returning miners related. Tales of Soapy Smith were very interesting.
bonvoyagie Posted April 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2016 I think that anywhere you go you will hear about Soapy Smith, and the Jack London stories - and of course Liarsville. I learned first hand about Bennett while on the train to Carcross.
