Calling all gamblers!!

Anyone using words such as "always" are clearly prone to hyperbole. And telling someone not to worry about it as though it's completely impossible for it to happen is just foolish.

Don't worry - I'm not so naive as to think it's not possible that a dealer can short me on a payout. I'm taking what Mastadon said as a general statement. I'll watch the dealers as best I can and not worry about it. If I'm stressing out about my payouts' accuracy, then I'm just not having fun anymore and what's the point? Right?

I appreciate everyone's thoughts - and receive it is well intended advice. Peace out!:)

Well put! I do my serious gambling in Vegas. On board, I play much lower limits, because I don't wan to HAVE to be super vigilant.

Thank you (everyone)!!

That's scary to hear that they use the same deck... I wouldn't trust it much, especially if it's the same deck as the previous sailing.

I believe most tables are dealer stands on soft 17. 1:1 payback on wins, 3:2 on blackjack (not sure if some are 6:5). I believe they use an 8 deck shoe and manually shuffle. Scary part is they use the same cards all week. When the table closes, they just carry the shoe in the back, then bring it back out when it opens up:eek: Not a lot of transparency there.... Hope they didn't accidentally "drop" a couple 10s and Aces in the back:cool:

They supposedly change out the decks weekly. But the fact that they carry the shoe into the back, out of sight, and then retrieve it when the table reopens is pretty much casino blasphemy.

Good game but very tough to win at when they only offer single odds.

Thats one of the reasons I don't pass bet!

Place bet and lay bet are my style!

Tom

That's pretty funny considering the house edge is much higher on place/lay bets than it is on the pass line. And that's true even if they didn't offer any odds at all on the pass line.

The house edge on pass line bets is only 1.414%. Now compare that to what you're giving up by placing (or laying) your bets instead:

Place Bet on 6 or 8: 1.515%

Place Bet on 5 or 9: 4.000%

Place Bet on 4 or 10: 6.667%

Lay Bet to lose on 6 or 8: 4.000%

Lay Bet to lose on 5 or 9: 3.226%

Lay Bet to lose on 4 or 10: 2.439%

I've been following this thread because like the OP I've discovered craps a short while ago hoping to play on our cruise this winter.

I'm not doubting your numbers as I've read them before, but please explain the logic of them. Is the 1.414% on a pass line bet a blended number? Obviously your odds of hitting the point on a 6/8 is way better then a 4/10.

I just got off a 10 day cruise on Serenade OTS and they changed decks daily; sometimes more often than that. I spent all my sea time in the casino so I noticed that.

Very interesting. I haven't been on RCI in about a year-and-a-half. But in all my previous cruises, I never saw this. Maybe they've finally gotten their act together...
