my wife and I have gone on princess and celebrity our last 4 cruises because these are classy type ships where some people dress up each night. we like to dress up each night like we do at home when going to a nice restaurant. I see that they only have one dress up night if you choose. do a lot of people treat this as a formal night? also were there any people dressed up the other nights? thank you

Although you do not need to, most people seem to dress nice each night especially when they go to the specialty restaurants so you will fit in fine.

You will find a lot more people dress more casually on NCL than on either Celebrity or Princess. Shorts are acceptable in the MDR at dinner, as are jeans and other casual attire. Some people will dress up, but the majority will not. Really no "formal" night.

The good thing is you will be comfortable in whatever you choose to wear. Go all out if it makes you happy and you enjoy doing so. Nobody cares what other people wear anymore. We just go with the flow and do what suits us.

The reason we love Norwegian is that you can dress however you feel comfortable (within reason). You will see a wide variety of dress in the evening depending on what each person is doing. There will be people who are celebrating an occasion and are dressed up or going to a special dinner at one of the specialty restaurants. There will be people in shorts and sandals who want to hit the buffet before the show or going to the casino. On the dress up or not night there are a few who wear formal dress, others suits and dresses and others slacks and a collared shirt.

You will see people dressed up most nights, but there are also a lot of more casual dressers. Sometimes you see a lady in a lovey dress....and her husband in T-shirt and shorts:rolleyes: Maybe that's how she got him on a cruise!

Most are wearing something in between. Enjoy!

We have found there is enough diversity in attire that no one should feel out of place. Lol....there was even a guy a couple years ago that lost a Super Bowl bet and had to wear girls baby clothes with a sign that said "I lost the bet". He only had to wear it while on the ship and had a different outfit everyday. Anytime someone approached him (which was often) he had to curtsy. He was such a great sport about it is was fun for pretty much everyone (unless you had NO sense of humor). It became a mission to get a pic of him everyday. He had a bunch of us sign his embarkation photo.

It was the Super Bowl where the Seahawks beat the Broncos and with this cruise leaving out of Seattle there were many Seahawks fans aboard. Several of us were called out to the pool deck in our Seahawks attire and 12th man flag with him sitting in front of us. He told us it was his 23rd cruise and his most fun as everyone was a good sport towards him.

Sorry to get off subject for a bit there. :o
