Is port considered a bottle of wine?

Recommended Posts

I've searched for the answer to this but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know if port is allowed as part of the 2 bottles of wine per cabin that we can bring for embarkation? Or is it considered a liquor? I like wine a lot, but I really, really love port. :-) Thanks in advance!

I consider it wine. I read on the boards that someone else really had to convince the screeners that "port wine" is really wine though.

It'll depend on the person that ends up checking it. It is a wine, fortified but a wine. If the bottle looks like a regular wine then your odds are better. Worst case they take it and you get it back when the cruise is over.

My local winery does a white dessert wine that comes in at 18% abv, my wife would love to bring a couple of those with us. It has a cork but is in a slightly smaller bottle than normal. We might try it anyway.

Port is fortified wine. You will be fine to bring it.
