NCL Gem still in Nassau...

GEM hightailed out of Nassau around midnight doing 21.5 knots (she can push as much as 24 to 25+ knots with a favorable & strong tail wind, been on her & done it - rocking & rolling a bit since it was also very stormy ... rough seas, too) so getting between point A & point B isn't the challenge. It's the precision steering while making those tight turns (going sideways) in ports, where tug and/or pilot boats are needed, if the azipods aren't still working after the repairs.

Without someone onboard posting live, it's difficult to know if she's fully repaired or not ... and, even then, only they are told or informed by the ship captain. She's scheduled to arrive back in NYC early Saturday (4:30 AM EDT or 8:30 UTC, per maritime site I checked) way ahead of schedule. Corporate HQ will tell & notify affected pax on subsequent sailing(s) if and when, otherwise.

Fingers & legs crossed, good luck for those sailing this Saturday and meanwhile, someone keep an eye on deck for whales coming into the NY harbor, LOL (the Breakaway ran into one last year  )

The telltale will be if a tug shows up outside the Verazzano to escort her back to port. This is a USCG requirement when one of two azipods is not working properly. It would appear from the speed that the pod is functional, but maybe the steering is off kilter.

The Gem left Nassau yesterday at 6:30 pm, I and many others seen it on the webcam as it was pulling out of Port no Tugs needed.

I dont know who seen her leaving at midnight?? that was not the case.

All appears to be well with the Azipods now.

Sometimes the map on the Webcam does not update, thats why it showed that she was still there

Not to cast a pall on this, or hex things, but the requirement for a tug escort is on a country by country basis. The US has required tug escorts for azipod ships that haven't used tugs for any of the foreign ports for the remainder of their cruises over months until the pod is repaired.

And the vessel's own AIS, rather than the bow cam, showed it left at 0405 UTC (or 00:05, midnight) last night.

I am sure all is well. My parents and little sister are on the ship -- the live webcam saw them in Nassau still at 10:30 PM last night when I checked -- camera was live and I was able to hear the island jams from surrounding bars/restaurants (so jealous)... I had to stay back cause I had law school finals!. I figured they would probably leave at midnight. I will inquire why they ended up leaving so late.

When I last spoke to them while they were in Port Canaveral, the only complaint was the cruise director (they said he was super dry - they love the famous Julie) :p They were having a great time... When they left NY, my father said that they were stopped due to the boat races ahead and that there was nothing wrong onboard.

Will keep you folks updated - for those sailing this weekend, all will be well!

I am friendly with a crew member on the Gem and when I talked to him on Saturday, he advised they were skipping GSC because the divers are in Bahamas and they would be repairing the propeller. This also happened on last week's sailing as well. Although I haven't heard from my friend yet, it appears they are heading back to NYC now. No worries. I will repost if I hear anything :) I was just on the Gem 4/21-4/30 and it appears the propeller had an issue when returning to NY 4/30.

unless the Gem turned back to Nassau last night, I'm not sure what you were looking at, The Gem left Nassau at 6:30 pm yesterday, not 10:30 pm we watched her leave when she pulled out
