When in port for a long day...arrive at 9am and then will overnight...can we rent a car our first day and see Entretat, Rouen and Honfleur? Thanks!

Absolutely and you have several good options. There is only one rental car company located right in the port (they are the most convenient) but their rates (and insurance options) may not be to your liking. And their web site has always been a real challenge (to me). But their local phone number in Le Havre is 02 35 41 76 76 and perhaps you can get somebody who speaks English (or maybe some other CC poster has a better web site).

The other options are several agencies located just outside the port (they would be about a 1 - 1/4 mile hike from the pier) including Europcar and Sixt (there might be 1 or 2 more in this neighborhood). We generally use Europcar...but have no problem handling the 20-30 min walk to the agency.

As to your one-day itinerary, we have done Etretat (and nearby Fecamp), Honfleur and Deuville in a single day (it is a stretch). But combining Rouen with any of these places is really difficult (but possible) given the distance. Rouen is a large city where you do need adequate time....and if we want to visit that city we normally just take the train and spend the day.

But with a 2 day, if your 2nd day is a long day you might go to Rouen the first day and perhaps drive to Honfleur and Deauville the 2nd shorter day. Keep in mind that Etretat is the opposite direction (from Le Havre) as is Honfleur...so when you toss Etretat into the mix you are really increasing driving time.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Marconi but thought I'd post here instead of starting a new thread. Hank, we're on the same sailing as the OP and have two days in le Havre. For Day 2 we have booked with Overlord for the full DDay tour.

I have a van booked for Day 1 and am looking at the various options. Was originally thinking of driving for to Giverny and then making our way back with stops at Rouen (cathedral) and Honfleur. A friend was telling us about Etretat and am tempted, could we combine it with Giverny? Would appreciate your suggestions:)
