geocruiser Posted May 25, 2016 #26 Share Posted May 25, 2016 In my other post I said that I booked on Friday. As of this afternoon there were no pre paid gratuity with my cabin cat. Now the pre paid gratuity are showing up. If I pay $100 more PP for the cruise now I can get $90 pre paid gratuity! No thanks.

RJGallagher1955 Posted May 25, 2016 #30 Share Posted May 25, 2016 I booked this sale out of Los Angeles for 3 days on the Crown December 1, 2016. Since I am a real novice at this, I never even wondered if it really was a sale or just a come on like some have implied. I too was surprised when the rep informed me of the non-refundable $100 deposit. I will submit to longer term experts than I if this really is a sale or not. But 3 days at $841 for two, didn't seem like a bad deal to me. Plus, cruising from LA is super simple for us, since we live so close to the Port of Los Angeles. geocruiser Posted May 25, 2016 #31 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Sorry that you missed that as the "queen of cheap' date='" I was being facetious.:)[/quote'] I really like your you answer. Did you happen to find any good deals on this sale? Beside the sale not being great, I am finding lots of the cabins being sold out, plus the prices being a lot higher than last year. We traveled on the same ship last Jan 10, all most the same ports and it was more that $300 cheaper PP. This year the cruise is on 1/8. I've also realized that Princess will always have sales. We have 2 cruises booked this summer that we really wanted to do (and both are sold out now). After that....it will depend on what life sends our way. Yes, we'll cruise again relatively soon. I just don't know when or where. And I don't see anything at a good enough price to make me jump. smslms Posted May 25, 2016 #33 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Why is it that people don't understand the old saying " there's one born everyday?" Don't blame Princess, they're just playing the same game as every other retailer. Just do the research, work with a good TA, book when you think it's advantageous to you and live with the results. If there is a sale later maybe you'll get something out of it, maybe you won't.
myfuzzy Posted May 25, 2016 #34 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Yeah, I too was looking forward to this "sale". When weighing the price and perks of my original booking, if I wanted to book through this "sale" I would be paying a higher price with less perks. I had also received the casino rate in the past couple of years, was told it was attached to my CC number. When I asked about the rate towards my upcoming cruise, I was told no. Every cruise I pull up in the future, I see no additional discounts being a past passenger, but actually see the prices higher than ever. If they don't come down, my next cruise may be in a row boat in the local creek.
EZ2CY Posted May 25, 2016 #35 Share Posted May 25, 2016 I'm guessing that I'm one of the few who have actually benefited from this sale. Just got off the phone with a very nice Princess rep who gave me a "refare" that resulted in about a $300 savings. I'll gladly take it.:)

I can't speak for this poster, but you typically lose the perks if you "re-fare."
Thrak Posted May 25, 2016 #38 Share Posted May 25, 2016 We book what we want and what we can afford. If the price goes up it's no big deal. If it goes down (and makes sense) we can rebook. It's not really something I'm willing to spend a great deal of time tracking. Folks like Pam just book early at a discount and then never worry about what sale might come along. Seems like it would make life easier and I'm all for easier. :) Note: I did once rebook a cruise when someone in my roll call mentioned a huge price drop. I took advantage of it immediately as there was no guarantee the price wouldn't go back up again. We saved $660 by rebooking so it was well worth the change. I don't expect this to be the norm but, when it comes around, I'm happy to grab onto it.

Between a reduced fare and increased OBC/paid gratuities, I just got a nice savings by rebooking under this new promo. To me, paid gratuity is just as good as OBC.
