Does DH Need a Jacket for Formal Night?

Recommended Posts

Here's what I suggest:

One button down shirt.

One tie (optional).

One pair of khaki pants.

One belt.

One pair of non-sneakers (really anything but sandals).

One vest.

On the first formal night wear all of that but the vest. If you spill something on your shirt, then the vest will cover it up for the second formal night. Bingo, bango, bongo.

And all of that can be worn in other situations normally as well. The tie is optional but it isn't that big in your luggage and is a nice accessory to wear.

We are going on the Oasis in less than 2 weeks. Is it REQUIRED for a man to have a jacket for formal nights if eating in the Main Dining Room? Was planning on just nice pants, button down shirt and tie if so...

Thank you!

No.

DH sometimes wears a dress shirt and slacks. Sometimes a tie, shirt and slacks.

He usually takes a jacket to wear on the plane and then may or may not wear it to all Formal nights. We do many B2Bs, [up to 7 in a row] and Formal night wears thin after 2 cruises.....:D

I think they have been ground down. It also does not help their point of view when the cruise line won't even enforce the no shorts thing.

Maybe, but it also often depends on exactly what question is being asked. Some people assume all questions about formal wear are equivalent. But this was very specifically asking if a jacket is REQUIRED. There's really only one correct answer to that. When someone asks more opinion-related questions about what you SHOULD wear, then naturally, you get more opinion-based answers.

Just my opinion - stick with the slacks and nice shirt and skip the tie. A tie with no coat is just an "office worker look" :D

But as stated above - no coat necessary.:)
