Cruisinfromvegas Posted October 1, 2016 #51 Share Posted October 1, 2016 The oldest Carnival ship is only 26 years old. "To be scraped". The Tropical, the first Carnival built ship came out in 1982, I was an original crew member, casino dealer. It has been sold several times, funnel changed, and is now a Green Peace ship... Je Souhaite Posted October 1, 2016 #52 Share Posted October 1, 2016 Had a hard time finding this thread for the Jubilee, I don't know why I find the history of old ships so interesting.( That's because these threads are usually moved to the WHATEVER HAPPENED TO board. There's plenty over there.

No, she has absolutely nothing to do with Green Peace at all, but is Peace Boat- totally different organization, thankfully! tidecat Posted October 1, 2016 #54 Share Posted October 1, 2016 Apparently the same outfit that handled the sale of the Jubilee has the Carnival Fantasy listed for $100 Million: http://www.ships4ever.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The4Cruisers Posted October 1, 2016 #55 Share Posted October 1, 2016 Apparently the same outfit that handled the sale of the Jubilee has the Carnival Fantasy listed for $100 Million: http://www.ships4ever.com Fantasy is still for sale? Wow... Imagine having a cruise booked on her and getting a call saying "sorry but we sold the ship". :D
tidecat Posted October 2, 2016 #56 Share Posted October 2, 2016 My guess is that if you offered to buy it, you couldn't take delivery before December 2017. The latest cruise on the Fantasy is scheduled for April 30, 2018. Unless if Carnival extended its contract with Mobile already, the earliest it could pull out of Mobile is November 28, 2017. At $100 Million, the ship will never sell - having 2000 passengers paying an average fare of $50 per night will be about $36 Million in fare revenue. If you assume the onboard spending is twice that, that's only about $108 Million in which you expect to net about 15%, or about $16 Million in profit. A payback period of 6-7 years doesn't do much for investors. Even if the ship sails with closer to 2500 passengers on average, that's still about 5 years to recoup the cost of the ship. That doesn't include any costs to renovate and re-brand the ship. Reportedly the Jubilee (Henna) was marked down to $22 Million when she sold. Given she isn't that much smaller than Carnival Fantasy in terms of passenger capacity, it would be much easier for an investor to turn around in 2-3 years at that price. glrounds Posted October 2, 2016 #57 Share Posted October 2, 2016 Three cruises on the JUBILEE . . . and funny, at the time, I thought she was the biggest friggin' ship I'd ever seen or could imagine ! :D
RecoveryDude Posted October 2, 2016 #58 Share Posted October 2, 2016 (edited) Sailed her a couple times, I was on her the morning of the 9/11 attacks, docking in Cozumel ... wondered where she went. SO sad. Thanks for the memories. Edited October 2, 2016 by RecoveryDude
MarcyAthanBucy Posted October 2, 2016 #59 Share Posted October 2, 2016 Jubilee was my Honeymoon, May 1991. That started our love of cruising also.... now 25 years later, we are platinum and have only cruised non CCL 3 times Sent from my iPad using Forums
toad455 Posted October 4, 2016 #60 Share Posted October 4, 2016 such a shame to hear this about the Jubilee. Only 30 years old, I kind of wish Carnival bought her back to do some exotic 7-10 sailings to some lesser known ports.
CRUIZIN SUZAN Posted October 5, 2016 #61 Share Posted October 5, 2016 sailing on a cruise ship was on the Jubilee 3/17/1991 for our Honeymoon. We flew from NJ to CA for a "once in a lifetime" opportunity of taking a cruise. It was the Mexican Riviera itinerary. Fast forward to our 25th/Silver wedding anniversary this past March. We finished up our 25th cruise and am currently pre-packing for our Carnival Pride sailing in a few weeks; number 26. The "cruise bug" bit and remains our preferred method of pleasure travel. I am sad to see the old girl pending demise. I will plan on watching our honeymoon FunTime VHS (yes, I THINK I have an old VHS player in the basement somewhere) and recall her fondly with a few fingers of good bourbon. carnivalgirl51 Posted October 5, 2016 #62 Share Posted October 5, 2016 She was my second cruise. That is where I was on 9/11/2001. I will never forget that cruise or this ship.
tidecat Posted November 13, 2016 #63 Share Posted November 13, 2016 Is the Jubilee for sale again? The "sold" designation has been removed from the details at http://ships4ever.com. Marked down to just $13.5 Million! Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note7 using Tapatalk. Hey, do you smell anything burning?

N7786W Flyer Posted November 27, 2017 Author #70 Share Posted November 27, 2017 A picture of the Henna (Jubilee) being scrapped in India. Looks like this picture was taken in August, so in all likelihood, she's completely gone now. https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/17668-henna-scrapped-in-india.html Garnett
