Carnival Liberty June 27, 2016 - It went without a hitch

Another first, as the Freedom was also debarking this day, we parked at terminal 2(?). What a walk from the ship to customs. After you went through customs, there was a table set up right before you walk out to pay your taxes on alcohol and cigarettes. All they did was ask if you had any alcohol or cigs, they didn't stop anyone, search bags, etc. They just asked. Unless you were visibly carrying the alcohol or cigs, then you could just say no and walk on out.

Booking this particular ship was a little hard. It seems the Liberty is somewhat cursed. Prior to booking it was known she was disabled in St. Thomas due to engine fire and the sudden listing to Port in 2012. After we booked there was the thruster problem, person overboard and a return to Galveston for an injured child. We know "ship happens", but this poor ship appeared to have some very bad JuJu.

No problems on our cruise. Seas were calm, minor rain, (which cleared up some seats), weather was nice, HOT, but nice. Maybe she's on the mend.

Had a really great cruise. If anyone has questions, fire away.

I have found three different Roll Calls for this same cruise!

Could we get them all 3 together? I'm not sure how to do this or even "if" it can be done!

Are those all for June 27, 2016? If so, I know there were two on the site that cannot be named, one is no longer active. Cannot combined Cruise Critic with other sites.

https://www.facebook.com/944694975644955 is a CLOSED site. Some people might now know what to do here.

https://www.facebook.com/1166056503427062 is an OPEN site and it would be so much easier for everyone. Let's all go to the open site. I promise I won't interfere again. :) If we can get everyone together we can have much more fun. Someone, (NOT Me) can plan a Meet n Greet! Please forgive me!

Naomi, I remember seeing your kiddos on the kayaks at Mr. Sanchos!!! We had a great time there. My son loved the Circle C club and met actually met and hung out with some kids!!! We were very happy for him to venture out on his own. DH and I seemed to hang out at the casino bar since we really liked the bartenders there and it's great people watching as well:)

Glad your cruise, as well as ours, came off without a hitch!! We are hooked now and cannot wait to plan our next one!!!

I have a feeling we met. We also was at the Casino bar before and after dinner. Wasn't Pat the best Bartender? Circle C? Wonder if your son is on the group chat they created after the cruise?

This cruise, June 27, 2016 is over. Not sure which one your on, but usually the two tend to merge. These boards tend to discourage any other group sites

I bet we did!! Pat and the two Lisa's were so much fun!! I did notice that it was pretty much the same people at the casino bar. It was an interesting mix of people. My husband did win $1000.00 on a slot machine so he was a happy camper:)

My son only remembered one name(Seth) and he did go out one night with two or three boys to have pizza and soft serve. He said he got one of the boys phone numbers but forgot to ask his name, lol!!!

Then maybe not, ours was out and about every night. And following the guitar player to every venue.

Hi,

I hope it is OK to post this here. I went on the Carnival Ecstasy years and years ago--mid 90s!--so it has been a while since I have been on a cruise and I am overwhelmed at what a different world it is.

I am going on the 5 day Mexico cruise with my extended family next month (total of ten people in four staterooms). I am travelling with my parents who have some health and mobility issues and feel a little anxious about all of the wrangling between them and my own four kids. I wanted to ask a few quick questions from Liberty experts:

1) Is FTTF worth it at the Galveston port?

It seems like a decent deal when you read what you get, but then I'm not sure what it is like to cruise out of Galveston. It does seem like it would be easier on my parents in terms of embarking/disembarking at Galveston and the other ports as well. Any advice?

2) Air mattress or other options?

We divided up two cabins into one adult and two kids each when we booked, rooms are right next to each other and my husband and I are hoping to put our four kids together (15, 13, 11 & 8) in one room and have one to ourselves. Both staterooms are for three people. My understanding is that there are two twin beds and a sofa pull out to fit three people. Can you bring a twin inflatable mattress or is that prohibited?

3) We will be leaving Saturday so would a Friday night be OK to qualify for a Park & Cruise? We are flying in from New England to meet our family at the start of our vacation in Galveston and will spend one night before leaving Sat. Im originally from TX and spent many summers there, was surprised to see the hotel prices but I guess that's August for you.

4) We are not big drinkers but do like to have a couple of drinks at dinner when we are on vacation. I have searched high and low for a price list for a typical cocktail (Cosmo? martini?) in order to determine if the drink deal would be good for us. Any ballpark figures on drink prices?

Thanks so much for all your help!

:)

I personally do not think FTTF is worth the price, but i'm also bias because I am platinum. A lot of people like it and if you think it would be easier on your parents, then it would be worth it for you.

This I do not know.

Yes, call the hotel a head of time to arrange the park and cruise price

Traditional frozen drinks are $8.75, the highest priced single glass of wine I saw available was $10.75, not sure about cosmos and martinis. I think the chocolate one some ordered at dinner were over $10.

Thanks so much for all your help!

:)

Hope this answers some of your questions

Thank you so much for posting your review and pics. We will be sailing on the Liberty for the first time on July 30. It has been hard to find many recent reviews of the Liberty.

Our first ever cruise was this one on the Liberty so I can't compare to other ships...but we were so impressed with the crew and how nice they were!!! Our steward, Bennett ask us every day if we needed anything! Consistently saw crew members cleaning. The ship does show it's age but is still very clean and nice. I think you will be just as impressed as we were!!! Would sail her again in a heartbeat!

We are on the Liberty Aug 27th, taking our son on his first cruise. He has his own Inside room, we have a balcony. Not directly across the hall, but a few doors down. Its our 5th cruise but we are still so excited!

My question is... do the Liberty rooms all have the mini bar? If so, I think we want to have our steward empty both rooms. Son is 27, so not concerned about him drinking, I am sure he will hit the bars on his own, but I just hate the whole mini bar thing. Plus I would rather use it as a fridge for water bottles.

Any other things about the rooms we should know?

thanks!

Yes, I do believe most, if not all have mini bar. They are locked until you get into International Waters(a Texas thing, I guess). We ask our steward to unlock it and we put the cans of soda, water, etc. on a shelf and put them back at the end of the cruise. Our steward said he could not take them and not sure why but it wasn't an issue at all. BTW, the mini fridge that we had barely kept our waters cool. On hindsight, I should have taken a small collapsible cooler and ask for ice.
