Just be aware that lots of Royal onboard agents do not know about the automatic one category upgrade at no cost for Captains Club members. Know your benefits before letting them book and you will be fine.

There's one I didn't know, but I've never done this yet. Do I have to be an actual Captain's club member, or is my equivalent status in Crown and Anchor good enough? Maybe that would only work on my 2nd X cruise?

You just need to get a number now. Since you are Diamond on Royal you will be Elite on Celebrity, you already have the status, you just need to sign up for an actual Captain's Club number and you do not have to have completed a sailing to get one.
