heffa72 Posted July 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2016 I have read some random posts that imply that staggered boarding is on all Carnival ships, but their site states it's only in some ports. Can someone confirm if Port Canaveral is a staggered port or can we show up anytime after 11ish and be able to board.
lizardhowson Posted July 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) It's not staggered boarding, it's staggered check-in Why not just check the Carnival website for correct answers. https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3180/~/staggered-check-in It's only at the ports mentioned, regardless of other's claims. stobe1 Posted July 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2016 There is no staggered boarding. They do have staggered check in, though.
riffatsea Posted July 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2016 We are having lots of trouble on this board with folks understanding the difference between "checking in" and "boarding". These are 2 completely different procedures! There are now staggered times for checking in and getting your sign n sail card. After that the boarding procedure remains the same. annabell08 Posted July 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) Maybe we can get the moderators to put a Sticky that says Staggered Check-in with the first post being an explanation of the difference between check-in and boarding. heffa72 Posted July 17, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) While check in and boarding are two different things, doesn't check in really dictate boarding? If I have a 3pm check in, wouldn't boarding always follow immediately after? I doubt many people stand around in the terminal and wait to board if they don't have to (except the few people who are waiting on others). So am I missing something on that distinction? Regardless, per the link the above posted gave me, it sounds like staggered check-in doesn't even apply to Orlando so I guess it's a moot point?? Cruisermom2nick Posted July 18, 2016 #11 Share Posted July 18, 2016 We have left out of PC a few times and only once did they check our boarding time we selected at the check in entrance. We had chosen 9:30-10 so it was fine we were early. However, another couple had chosen noon- 12:30 and were told to come back for check in at noon the ealriest. I guess it depends on who is in charge at the port! Miami does this now too for some cruises... Good luck! :)

CHECK IN at 3 is going to let you board immediately since embarkation probably started 3 hours earlier. CHECK IN time of 10:30 means waiting until they start embarkation. I have had it start as late as 1:30! You CHECK IN when you select. You BOARD when they say. And yes, you may wait around.
cruizinisthebest Posted July 18, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Incorrect. Miami does it now for all cruises Staggered Check-In has been rolled out to all vessels sailing from Baltimore, Charleston, Galveston, Honolulu, Miami, New Orleans and Norfolk. Folks sailing on the Vista out of Miami when it comes to the U.S. do not yet have the option to pick a check-in time. So no it's not yet available for every cruise out of Miami. I know there's no option yet for my Vista booking. It is a year away but others sailing at the end of the year don't have the option to choose a time yet either. Have no idea what you could be talking about, but it isn't selecting check in times.

Regardless, per the link the above posted gave me, it sounds like staggered check-in doesn't even apply to Orlando so I guess it's a moot point?? The order in which people check-in still determines the order in which their zone is called to board. However, using the term "staggered check-in" instead of "staggered boarding" is important because (1) It clarifies that you cannot even walk inside the terminal and start the check-in process until your time period starts, and (2) It clarifies for those choosing early times that this doesn't mean you'll actually board during that time and may have to wait awhile. That might be an important consideration when deciding what time to select.

rufflesmom Posted July 19, 2016 #24 Share Posted July 19, 2016 I think I have figured out at least some of the confusion between staggered check-in and staggered boarding. I just looked at my booking. When you go to pick a check-in time it says under that "setup embarkation time."
StolidCruiser Posted July 19, 2016 #25 Share Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) I think I have figured out at least some of the confusion between staggered check-in and staggered boarding. I just looked at my booking. When you go to pick a check-in time it says under that "setup embarkation time." Possibly. But in BOLD letters it first shows "MY CHECK IN TIME" and then below it in smaller letters "SETUP EMBARKATION TIME. Once you click there is says: MY CHECK-IN TIME Please select your check-in time below, all guests in your cabin must arrive during this time. Your selected check-in time will also be printed on your boarding pass. IMPORTANT: We are sorry, but guests who arrive earlier than their selected or assigned check-in time will be asked to return within their designated check-in window. I don't think it ever says "boarding time" anywhere (except on the boarding pass). The words have always been CHECK-IN related to the new staggered process.
