If you go to the Carnival site and go to the screen where you would pre-purchase Cheers - you will see before you add it to your cart it now says in red on that screen, "Please call 1-800-845-2599 if you would like to use a Carnival Gift Card to purchase this package." Awesome news!

I called that number and the rep told me that I would have to wait until I was on board to purchase the cheers package with gift cards. Maybe she was inexperienced?

I went on the website and the "Please call ...." sentence is not there or at least I can't find it.

Wow! I just went to the same exact spot to look again and now it's gone! I took a screenshot of it, I swear it was there earlier! Weird...hopefully at the very least this means it might be coming soon?

I hope so. Verizon has gift cards available now (not sure for how long) but I don't want to purchase a lot of $$ in gift cards if I have to turn around and put Cheers on the CC anyway.

I had reported that to Carnival about 3 months ago. When you called they said they could not take it. That number actually goes to Carnival IT. The said they would put in a ticket to remove the number. Looks like someone put it back on but the issue still remains. No gift cards for advanced purchase of the Cheers package. The other problem is they tell you over the phone they will honor the discount rate when you get on board if using a gift card but I have seen many folks post on here that you still get charged at the 55.95 on board rate not the 49.95. :(

I also called this afternoon and the gentleman who answered said if you go to guest services when you arrive they will honor the early price with gift card. I really don't believe it and will get charged full price so will see how this plays out before I bite on that.

Yeah, the 10% i'm saving with gift cards, could cost me extra money if I take their word. I plan on using my credit card, unless they change online payments.

When I did the math I figured out that buying Cheers onboard with discounted GCs is a few cents cheaper than buying online prior to departure. I think I'm going to go for it since I've already got FTTF and will already be standing in line for BTF.

It will be interesting to see what happens and it is true that they honor the gift cards for reduced prices at the guest services. It would be nice if Carnival posted the real story on its' website or somewhere, I did e-mail my PVP and he just said he couldn't do anything but to call that number so hopefully they will clear everything up and this post will continue until solution is found.

So my discounted gift cards save me $80 (10%). To buy cheers for my wife and me on board would cost $884, to buy it ahead of time would cost $804. I don't know, but I believe I saw buying cheers onboard might have taxes? Regardless, if I use my credit card ahead of time I earn 3%. The only real savings is if they would allow me to use gift cards ahead of time, because then I would actually get an 11% savings between gift card and CC points earned buying the gift cards at 1%.

Ahh. I hadn't heard about the possibility of taxes being charged onboard. I also wasn't taking into account the CC points, which in my case is only 2%.

Good point about the CC points. I would be surprised if they charged tax on the program if you buy it on board since they charge tax on the drinks when you are in a US port, even with Cheers.

I figured the only way to save real money is if I can score some gift cards off the eBay/Paypal promo they run a couple times a year, where you can get $75 worth of cards for $60. I did this a couple months ago to use for my final payment and am watching for another promo.... If I can get them I'll buy Cheers on board, if not, I'll just purchase ahead of time. Of course, you only get one deal per account so it works better for those of us just buying for one person on a short cruise.

I actually printed it off yesterday while the statement about calling the 800 number to use a Carnival Gift Card was on the website. Crazy that they would put that up and then take it down. Hope they get their ducks in a row soon.

IT should be working on a way to use gift cards on the website for this...not holding my breath, though.

I plan to just buy cheers ahead, deposit my gift cards to the S & S account, take cash out of S & S account to take home and pay my credit card. I get the credit card points + I still get the savings from buying ahead.

See any issues with my plan?

That's not a bad idea if you can float the difference from the time you buy it until the time you can pay it back without having to pay interest.

Don't they limit you to $500 in gift cards on your S&S?

Would you go to the Casino to take cash out?
