MSEm Posted August 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2016 I will be sailing on the Regatta from NYC on Oct 12 to Montreal I will fly from ATL. I would like to know the pros and cons of flying into any of the 3 NYC area airports. Also suggestions on the best way to get to the port. Thanks for the help
Classiccruiser777 Posted August 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2016 Newark, (EWR), is in NJ so taking a cab requires an out of state surcharge as well as bridge/tunnel tolls. LaGuardia is the nearest to the piers and, as with JFK, is in NY so no out of state surcharges. All three have ample taxi, limo and bus service. Though it is a lousy airport my choice is LaGuardia. hypercafe Posted August 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2016 Sometimes there is a big difference in air fare between the three so check that out. We use dial 7 car service. Newark is the closest. Traffic can be a issue as the other two are on the opposite side of Manhattan.
MSEm Posted August 7, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted August 7, 2016 Thank you, I will look for LaGuardia & JFK flights. I have found the LaGuardia flights are usually lower in price that the JFK flights. Any suggestions for earliest flights from Montreal if we depart on the day we leave the ship? Rare LHT28 Posted August 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2016 (edited) Any suggestions for earliest flights from Montreal if we depart on the day we leave the ship? Thanks for all the help If you arriving early morning I would not book before noon at the earliest You will clear US immigration at YUL so that can take extra time/lineups http://www.admtl.com/en/guide/personal-guide%3Fbase-course%3Ddeparture-international Edited August 7, 2016 by LHT28
Rare RachelG Posted August 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 7, 2016 I would pick whichever had the lower airfare. If arriving in Newark, take the train to Penn Station then a cab. This would be way faster than a cab from the airport to the pier and cheaper.
katmat Posted August 7, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2016 MSEm...I see that you live in Fayetteville. We also live in Fayetteville. Ironically, we have also booked NY to Montreal but in Oct. 2017. Small world!

This would be way faster than a cab from the airport to the pier and cheaper. As a long time New Yorker and now a New Jersey-ite my preference exactly. It might seem an issue taking a train, but EWR is on the other side of the river from Manhattan piers. The train would be the cheapest way. There are plenty of cabs, buses, and limos that would get you there in no time. Just avoid the rush hours in the morning and evening. :)
