Jennnfusion Posted September 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2016 How did you stay in contact with your partner while sailing? I'm guessing texts won't work at sea. I noticed that NCL has an on-board app for communication - anyone use this? Seems like most cruisers find walkie-talkies totally annoying... and I feel like they'd be frustrating/spotty to use anyway.
cb at sea Posted September 11, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2016 We just talk! We tell each other where we're going, and that way, we know where to find the other! If plans change, a note in the cabin will give the other an update! You really don't have to stay in constant contact....Hubby knows I'll be at the pool...he'll be in the casino, and we will meet for lunch, or whatever! gymbomb Posted September 11, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2016 We just talk and plan on when/where to meet. It has never been a problem. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jennnfusion Posted September 11, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted September 11, 2016 I'm just assuming traveling with two young kids will complicated matters, especially with nap or dining schedules. "Divide and conquer" will probably be how we roll. That's why I ask.

We have only sailed with one young child, but have also employed the divide strategy and honestly it has just never been a problem. Including on trips we have taken with extended family. They do have an app available on some ships. We got it once, it wasn't great, the next time we opted to just figure it out as we went. vamartha Posted September 11, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2016 Carnival's app works well. It is just like texting. Had no problems at all and we are not kids, we are 60 somethings!
WAHMto5 Posted September 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2016 Don't know about all the lines, but Carnival and NCL do have the apps that you can use. Our kids are all older (12yrs +) and they are great to use with them!
williamsk Posted September 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Here are a couple ideas- 1) put a small dry erase board in the cabin to communicate 2) check out the 'phone' that some cruise lines give you to communicate with the childcare center. Some of them will also work to call cabins. It was a nice perk for us on carnival. We also talk and agree to meet up at X time after the activity is over. It's great! There is a texting and calling feature available that is $9.95 per device. Best money I spent, because I know where my kids are at all times. Rare dctravel Posted October 7, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Each adult always had one or more of the kids with them at all times, unless the kids were in the kids club (then we knew where they were). For other communications needs, we decided not to get Carival's social media package and instead left each other post-it notes in the cabin. After a few days, we got a feel for where everyone was likely to be, so I often checked there first before heading to the cabin to see if there were any notes. ElizabethT Posted October 8, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2016 I had a dry erase board for us to communicate with my 12 yr old but he was usually with one of us adults. For the adults I used they carnival HUB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
schnoobie Posted October 12, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 12, 2016 we downloaded the iconcierge app from NCL- supposedly you can text others onboard without roaming charges... it's gotten mixed reviews...we'll see in November I guess. Wondering if I should just get a verizon international package... All I want to do is connect with my husband without going all the way back to the cabin but don't want roaming charges. How about airplane mode and and a data package for facebook messenger, would that work?

Iconcierge and walkie-talkies were both spotty on our Jade cruise in January, but most of the time either one or the other worked to keep in contact with my partner when one of us was alone and the other one had our daughter. And on NCL the kids club gives you a phone they can call you on if your kids need you. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Forums mobile app
