Noelle2375 Posted September 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2016 We will be in Tortola in January. Traveling with my husband and 2 girls ages 7 and 5 and our friends and their son who will be 2. I heard that there is a free beach in Tortola. Does anyone know the name or have other suggestions? First time there and since we have young kids, wanted to just do a beach day. Thank you!!
blue_water Posted September 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Yes, all of the beaches are open to the public on Tortola and there are some that have beach bars and restaurants that offer amenities like lounges and food and drink for a price. The most popular and most crowded is Cane Garden Bay, while Brewers is another popular choice but has just one beach bar with a restroom that is a bit more rustic. Lounge prices vary but someone else can probably help there. Taxi to either beach via safari taxi is about $8pp each way, the 2 year old is free. blue_water Posted September 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2016 Sure! The girls should be 1/2 taxi fare which also helps. Another option is an island tour with a beach stop offered by drivers at the port. They're very inexpensive and it's a great way to see the beauty of Tortola and also enjoy some beach time. Enjoy Tortola!
cruisetimeforme Posted October 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2016 When you say inexpensive, about how much and for how long? Do you see quite a bit of the island? Any idea which beach one might expect to go to? We've been to Tortola 3 or 4 times and just not sure we want to pre plan our day in advance, so a decision on the day we arrive might just be for us. Thanks!
blue_water Posted October 16, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Typically 3 - 4 hrs and $20 - 25pp, I've seen them stop at Cane Garden Bay, some may stop at Brewers Bay. You can get more details when you get off the ship. and the girls at the visitor center are also very helpful.
OCruisers Posted October 16, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2016 The beaches are free but you'll need a taxi to get to them. ;)
