Viking Homelands and shoes

On the Grand European River cruise it was suggested to bring sturdy shoes and they certainly came in handy. Do we need them for the Homelands cruise? Thanks!

Depends upon the temperature and the shoe you are comfortable with. I wore Keen sandals the whole cruise in June.

I think that sturdy sandals such as Keens or Teva's if warm - good walking shoes for sure - in my humble opinion are non optional regardless of where we travel.

So as suggested, depends on temps.

There are! And it is a wonderful itinerary! We loved it. Have a great time.

That same river cruise (Grand Euoprean) a few years ago prompted our continued Viking support. I do believe you will not be disappointed at all!

We did the Vikings Homeland in late July this year. There are lots of cobblestones and uneven surfaces - several of us thought there were more uneven areas than on the Grand European. We saw a number of people having to stop a fall. Also, the height the curbs vary greatly along any stretch of road.

Good walking shoes are an absolute necessity on the viking Homelands cruise. There are cobblestones everywhere. We did lots of walking on most of our excursions. The good thing about that is that I didn't gain weight after eating all the delicious food on board. :D

Vineyard View, the Grand European cruise was wonderful and certainly was the reason we booked the ocean cruise through them. Well, one more reason. We met a wonderful server on the Magni and have stayed in touch with her the last couple of years. She is now on the ocean cruise.

Are there any day-by-day "live" reports of the Homeland Tour?

You definitely need sturdy shoes as there cobblestones in all of the port cities. I think that most people wore "athletic" shoes, and they were very comfortable.. We just returned from the Homelands Cruise, and it was really wonderful. We had such beautiful weather, and we had not packed for that!!!So bring a variety of clothes!! We did many tours on our own as Viking provides shuttle buses at the ports that are not close to town. All in all, a great trip!!!

We are booked for Homelands in May 2017. We are on the Star sailing May 20th or 21st, not sure which one. Looking for people on our sailing that want to book private tour in Russia. I started a roll call but no response.

Thanks! We've learned to dress in layers so we pretty much are taken care of in all kinds of weather, LOL.

I wore a pair of New Balance hiking shoes on excursions. Hubby wore something similar. Worked great.

Thanks! Thinking of my Keen's. I wore them for the Grand European Cruise and they worked great. Guess I will wear them this time.
