Hislamb12 Posted September 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Will have about 8 hours before flight leaves LAX after Carnival cruise when someone on here told me you have to be off ship about 9 am.. I was hoping we could stay till 12 or so, but looks like not. We do not have a rental car and really don't want to stay at airport for that long. Any suggestions? Is there a beach to hang out nearby or just going to Queen Mary for a few hours? We will have our luggage with us obviously Thanks!
swodog94 Posted September 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2016 I'd recommend Uber-ing over to Seal Beach. It's quiet but there's some very nice shops and restaurants. There's a nice beach with a fishing pier. Good place to kill a few hours before you head to the airport.
tapdancemom Posted September 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Hubby and I are in the same situation after our 15 day Hawaiian cruise. We'll have our luggage with us as Long Beach airport doesn't let you check it more than four hours before our 7:30pm flight. We don't want to rent a car and drive in LA traffic and most tour don't seem to work into our time frame. Any ideas? loubetti Posted September 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Why not go from one ship to another? Queen Mary is next door, as you mentioned. Why would this not prove interesting over another beach? Here: http://www.queenmary.com/ Tours, food, and a taste of what it was like to cross the Atlantic in 1936-1966. You can also tour a Russian submarine while there! Sort of a no-brainer, eh? Edited September 29, 2016 by loubetti
riffatsea Posted September 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2016 I can't imagine going to a beach with luggage?? Going to the Queen Mary is a good idea because they might hold your luggage for you. Going to an airport hotel to hang out and have lunch might also work as they will have a place to keep your luggage as well and then they will have a shuttle to the airport. Renting a car and putting the luggage securely in the trunk would give you more freedom but other than sitting at the airport I don't think there's anywhere else you can go with luggage. VASOXFANN Posted September 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2016 We're staying on the Queen Mary the night before, so we'll be exploring her then. If we had time before our flight, we'd take a Hollywood bus tour.
jribar Posted September 29, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2016 I've been on queen Mary, it's really neat. It's actually what triggered us taking our son on his first cruise. He loved staying in the ship. There is an area not far from Queen Mary they had shops, restaurants, arcade. And I think certain buses are free. GradUT Posted September 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 30, 2016 The Carnival website used to advertise free admission to the Queen Mary (basic self-guided audio tour, not any of the specialty tours though). However, that link was removed, but I read that you could still do it. I had planned to check it out after our cruise on the Imagination in August, but we ended up doing some shopping in town before heading back to LA. (We, too, had a car.) But, I still think it's worth checking out because the audio tour of the Queen Mary, which I did last year, was very good. And the dining room was nice for lunch--it's not expensive when compared to LA prices. Finally, you don't need to rush off the ship. We had breakfast in the MDR just before they closed it (at 9am, I believe) and then we sat on the back deck outside the Lido buffet and had a cup of tea and watched seals cavorting and chatted until about 10-10:15 when we leisurely disembarked. It is such a civilized way to end a cruise when you don't have to rush to catch a flight.
