Celebrity Solstice currency help needed

I have only sailed on P&O Carnival and Princess.

I am going on my first cruise with Celebrity and not sure how things work regarding putting money on the cruise card or having cash for the casino.

I have classic drink package so I don't think I will spend much on ship but I will be spending on pokie machines.

Usually I budget $50 AU a day.

Am I best taking American money on board or is there something else I can do?

You're help will be appreciated thank you :)

There are a number of options,

  • the easiest is to just rack up a bill on your account and pay with the CC (get your bank's conversion rate rather than the cruise lines) at the end of the cruise.
  • the next is to do the same but pay in cash either AUD (which they will convert) or USD if you have it.
  • another is to pay cash up front at the start of the cruise again either AUD or USD is acceptable.
  • You can pre- purchase either OBC for use during your cruise, you can then set up a casino account with promo chips or money to use. Any left over OBC will be credited back to your CC on the account, however, any Casino credits will be lost. You can cash out any winnings from the casino.

The currency onboard the Solstice and all Celebrity Ships is $US. If one uses OBC to play in the casino one will be issued with promotional chips which cannot be cashed in for cash but winning from use of these chips/credits can be. This is because going back a year or two, passengers were using non refundable OBC in the casino and for a 5% fee could cash in the non refundable credit. This practice went on for a long time but was stopped about 12 months ago. You can charge up casino costs to your seapass card and pay for it at the end of the cruise. When you go onboard you will be required top nominate a credit card for all onboard charges. If you check the Celebrity website under gifts, you can find out what is costs to purchase onboard credit for use on board. Sometimes the exchange rate is better than a bank sometimes it isn't. You can make a call
