Carnival Dream/Baseball playoffs help!

We are leaving in a week on the Carnival Dream. Silly me expected the playoff games to be on major networks. But turns out it will be on Fox sports or FSI, whatever that is. Now I know there isn't a chance to see it in my cabin. Do they have sports bars? Or is there WiFi onboard? Have NEVER brought a computer before but feeling a bit desperate here. I'm a CUBS fan! This is HUGE!

Don't give up yet. They might well have it in the sports bar. I don't know either way, but none of the other posters said it definitely won't be in the sports bar. I know they often have European soccer, so you'd think they'd have the capability of getting FS1.

I don't recall the Dream having a separate sports bar. And I don't see it on the current deck plans layouts.

They will have a variety of sports casts playing at the casino bar.

Here's what Carnival says about sporting events:

Sporting Events

Sporting events are sent to us by the satellite provider – we do not choose the games we show in the bars or on the big screens. ESPN and ESPN 2 Latin America are shown in the Sports Bars (not shown in staterooms and suites).

Well, that's something. I have asthma and have an attack every single time I am around smoke. Since I don't have a gas mask, I may have to find a deck outside the sports bar and peek through a window. Or take deep breaths, run in and watch 20 seconds and run back out. :p

They have to beat the Giants first. If they don't, well....look out bars!!! :D

Just off the Magic and so disappointed they did not broadcast the baseball games either in the bars or the cabins. We are Canadian and avid Blue Jay fans and so looked forward to watching on the cruise. They were carried by TBS in the US but blocked on the cruise. We ended up watching the play by play on our phones. Just not the same.

Technically smoking is only allowed on one side of the bar but it doesn't matter, the entire place reeks.

I just got from last week's adventure on Elation. They did not have FS1 or TBS to get the baseball games. I wasn't real happy because we were told by 2-3 workers that they can order and get any game that was on, no matter what the channel (seemed logical since every sports bar in the country does that), and then were told that the only sports channels they had were ESPN & ESPN2.

After those encounters, I had the unfortunate task of dealing with Guest Services. I was told a few different things by H***** from Poland:

1. "You can pay for the Premium Wifi package and watch it"

My response: I didn't think streaming was allowed

"Oh you can watch it on a TV app, my YouTube works great on here"

*I paid, it did not work at all. Trying to get my money back as we speak*

2. This lady then looked at me and said, "What is it with you Americans and your affliction with watching sports on TV? You're on vacation, relax and spend time with your family."

I was a little stunned, and told her that I am divorced and my kids did not come with me on the cruise, and as a former player and HS coach, watching games is how I like to relax.

Didn't mean to spill all of that, but I was less than impressed by Carnival and their service (and not just because of the baseball games).

I'm sorry you had that experience. I'm disappointed because when the Elation was sailing from NOLA a couple years ago, I was impressed with their efforts to show U.S. sports. The basketball Final Four was airing on TBS, and they managed to show the games on a big screen in the comedy club. I think we were watching the Duke Network, but we saw the games. They also had real ESPN on the lido deck TVs.

To the OP, I would expect Carnival will do what they can, but it might be difficult to get the games because they're on FS1. I would be prepared, so you're not too upset on vacation. You may be monitoring the play-by-play through wifi. Congratulations, btw. My family is cheering for the Cubs this year.

We were on a cruise during the world cup a few years ago. Carnival could show them on ABC or ESPN if we were in a US port or in US waters (USVI, Puerto Rico) but not outside the US. At sea and in foreign ports the only sports channels they could show were ESPN International and ESPN Deportes if I remember right. The explanation at the time was that it had to do with Carnival only having broadcast rights for certain channels or events in certain locations.

Thanks for all the info, and 2 thumbs up to my fellow Cubs fans.

I cannot change this, and will just try to find the games and if I can't, then I can't. I do not have international on my personal phone service. My husbands work phone does, so worst case scenario I will have my sister text me. Not dragging the computer because it does not sound like it will help anyway, even though I have MLBTV. I would wind up on a cruise during an epic (for me) series. I expected the games to be on a network. :)

Good idea cruisinkelsey. I wonder if ESPN is available in room. Time for more research.

Hmm... I can't remember seeing it in the rooms, but I know I saw it in the sports bar (this summer on the Legend). I was trying to get some news from the All Star game, but it was pointless. ESPN seems to like to rehash the same stuff over and over again. So I gave up! But I think with a series of this magnitude, and the potential of it being the Cubs, will make a difference on the coverage.

I can save you some time. From Carnival's FAQs:
