Inexpensive activity with kids?

Following because I have this same question with the same age kids in about the same ports. We considered Xcrat near Cancun based on some awesome trip advisor reviews, but I think since we have a short port day we will save that excursion for another trip when we can enjoy more of the evening entertainment. If I come up with anything I'll post it here.

Cozumel is an island so most of the activities revolve around the ocean and beaches. There are some Mayan ruins on Coz - small and disappointing IMHO compared to Tulum or Coba, but your kids might like them.

I would look at another beach day - Paradise Beach has great facilities, a HUGE pool, good food/drinks/service, water toys (extra fee) and only charges a $3 admission fee/chair rental.

Closer (less expensive taxi), and with no real beach is the Money Bar - offering good snorkeling from the shore (you enter the water via steps). Rental gear available, good facilities, food, service, etc.

Let them wear themselves out while you sip one more margarita!

I would love some more information on this! Is there snorkeling gear available for rent or do you have to bring your own? How much does it cost to get into this beach?

Thanks!

They have a website

http://moneybarbeachclub.com/

Unfortunately they have recently redone the site and it is not nearly as informative but it does have some good photos of the facility now in the gallery.

Snorkel equipment is available for rent but you would have to email for current prices. I would suggest having a float, or bright top, as I have seen a lot of small boats bringing snorkeling excursions to the area and it looks very busy to me at times.

They also have a fbook page and in the drop down menu they have a list of food and drink menus with prices in pesos.

Taxi would be around $10 each way for up to 4 people.

My preference would be Money Bar but you could also look at Sky Reef Bar website which offers similar facilities, although some people have said that some cruise ship excursions go there. I have only dropped in there for quick drink. I have not snorkeled at either location.

And to add to c-legs5 and John's posts, while increasing your confusion and panic:eek::D, Playa Corona Beach almost next to Money Bar has a similar setup. Both with iron shore. Wear water socks/shoes. Both are pay-as-you go.

But Playa Mia may have water toys and facilities a tad more kid friendly for your youngest. Although Paradise Beach is good. Neither of these have good snorkeling. But they are both pay-as-you-go places.

A different option might be to take an island tour and head over to the east (wild) side to see that coast line. Look up Tours Plaza or "hiring a driver for the day" on this board for information. You can then include things like Discover Mexico, the ruins, the Tequila Factory along the transversal road, or the Kaokao Chocolate Factory as stops.
