Norfolknights Posted June 16, 2017 #26 Share Posted June 16, 2017 I'm very happy to hear that the beer rumour has been quashed. I like a beer but I don't even know if I'll have any with my meal. It was just the faux snobbery that distressed me! Thanks all and thanks Hattie for your info.
ToadOfToadHall Posted June 16, 2017 #27 Share Posted June 16, 2017 Again, I simply cannot believe that people are banned from drinking what they like.
ToadOfToadHall Posted June 16, 2017 #28 Share Posted June 16, 2017 My friend ordered a bottle of Doom Bar at our first 2 dinners on QV. After that, his beer was waiting while the rest of us perused the wine list. On our last but one cruise, the wine waiter had a bottle of Grolsh in an ice bucket every night for me after the first couple of nights as well. BklynBoy8 Posted June 16, 2017 #29 Share Posted June 16, 2017 Hi All, I so think that certain foods do taste good with a beer especially a specialty beer. But beer is like any other beverage being offered on board that can be consumed with a meal. I know many while sailing wish to experience a different type of dining experience by selecting from the fine selection of wines on the Wine List. Unfortunately I always thought in the pass and even now, it odd watching people drinking coffee with their meal or entree. Coffee before dessert? It's one's opinion and likes... Norfolknights Posted June 16, 2017 #30 Share Posted June 16, 2017 As I said "I cannot believe it". Meaning, "I don't believe it".
balf Posted June 16, 2017 #31 Share Posted June 16, 2017 But even I draw the line at the consumption of liquidised bear. Outside of Siberia, such things are barbaric. You obviously don't know your beers. https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/bespoke-ye-olde-black-bear-bitter/229952/ David
Salacia Posted June 18, 2017 #32 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Toad is correct. Protesting bear drinkers being led out of the MDR is a common sight. CAMRA members are put ashore at the next port. You gotta believe it. David. Not being a beer (or bear) drinker...I wish to go on record as supporting their right to drink the beverage of their choice, no matter how repulsive :halo:
Rare babs135 Posted June 18, 2017 Author #33 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Again, I simply cannot believe that people are banned from drinking what they like. If this kind of pretentious bs makes people feel 'set apart' or 'proper' then they've clearly never mixed in genuinely decent society circles (by their blinkered standards). Where hosts are more accommodating. And people are real. I'm a very 'ordinary' person but due to my wife's connections I've mixed in with some very exclusive circles (again, by the standards lauded by those who gush at such things). And guess what? People of 'high standing' drink beer. With their dinner (oh the horror). While I'm convinced that this is a joke, I'll be avoiding the more stuck up areas of my crossing. I was put off booking this trip for these reasons. People assured me it wasn't really full of such wide of the mark snobbery. Maybe it really is. When you've visited this board a few more times you will begin to learn when people are joking, being sarcastic or even on occasion downright rude :D Did you not read the reply to my original post? A mixed bag of results but amongst some of the 'sarcy' comments there were proper replies. People are joking re 'escorting beer drinkers out of the MDR' Rest assured that if you want a beer with your dinner then order it. Who cares what other people think. At the end of the day it's your holiday. Enjoy cruising
balf Posted June 18, 2017 #34 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Not being a beer (or bear) drinker...I wish to go on record as supporting their right to drink the beverage of their choice, no matter how repulsive :halo: Some of the "cheaper" wines are pretty repulsive IMO. I'm sure though, reading between the lines here that some sideways looks could be expected at times to a diner drinking the foul liquid, including from the wine waiters. Though not from you dear lady. As so often it's a class thing: bottled premium beer would probably be more acceptable than a pint of Boddingtons!! David.
