Taking a drone?

I don't think that you are required to register hobby drones with the FAA, anymore. The law was recently changed. There is still a laundry list of rules that must be followed. Here is the notice from the FAA regarding unmanned aircraft:

For many hobbyists taking their drones to be able to create stunning videos in the beautiful locations we cruise to is as exciting as a zip line or other excursions. Everyone vacations for different reasons some like just to lay on a beach while others want to do extreme adventures. The key word there ... different.

 

I do not own a drone. I have no inkling to ever own 1. But I admire the videos I have viewed from drone enthusiasts.

Thank you. My thoughts exactly. The angle is so wide on these cameras that you would literally have to be within feet of someone to make out their features if photographed. I just don't see why people are so offended by these flying cameras. You are more likely to be photographed unintentionally by someone else's 35mm camera on any vacation with more detail than one of these drones. They don't have a zoom capability.

On my last cruise on the Valor I took my drone. I flew it at all 3 ports: Nassau, Freeport and Half Moon Cay. Freeport, they ran me off. They told me that I could go inland but not on the port. Nassau the security actually hung around me and talked. They liked it. With that being said, I'm about to sail on the Sunshine going back to Nassau so I contacted the government over there and they do have laws. You have to let them know the purpose, serial number, registration with FAA, etc.

 

Half Moon Cay I went into the main area and flew it all over. No problems.

 

Below I will try to attache a few pics. I have more if you guys want to see more.

 

You can NOT fly from the ship at any time. Ive been tempted to take my Phantom 3 Standard since i never use it any more to try to fly from my balcony while at sea, that way if I lose it, it's not too big of a loss. But I've chickened out LOL.

There are two ways for recreational or hobby UAS fliers to operate in the National Airspace System in accordance with the law and/or FAA regulations. They're obviously not sports fans. Moving goal lines are not cool. LOL Doesn't change anything for us. We use drones commercially in our work, so we already have to jump through all of the hoops.

Locally, a drone pilot interfered with an ambulance helicopter. I bet there are way more irresponsible hobbyists than responsible considering how how of the photos posted can't be from drones in line of sight.
