Hothams Posted October 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2016 I'd love to book the Breakaway 12/26 sailing however the recent reviews haven't been too positive. It's between Carnival Pride or NCL Breakaway that week. Can I have some feedback on the Breakaway , please? Hothams Posted October 30, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted October 30, 2016 The Breakaway? I'm glad to hear that and I feel the same way- I just have been reading not so good reviews. I know they're subjective but I got a little nervous....thank you very much! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
NYcruzzer Posted October 30, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Both are great choices.."Spirit" class is one of my favorite Carnival ships. Perfect size. Nice passenger to space ratio. Also love the Breakaway. Much larger ship. Lots of bells and whistles. Much better entertainment. You can't go wrong with either.
CRUISEVIEW Posted October 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 30, 2016 (edited) We've been on the Breakaway. Beautiful ship, lots to do. Food and service were excellent. We'd have no problem booking it again...and in fact we have! But as CasinoCruzGirl said, we've also found that a cruise really is what you make of it. There are always going to be naysayers. Go and enjoy! Edited October 30, 2016 by CRUISEVIEW
Tammyd549 Posted October 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 30, 2016 We cruised Breakaway in Aug, had an amazing time!!!! Actually just booked her again to Bermuda (again!) for next Sept. Is she perfect? Nope. But, no ship/holiday is perfect. It is 100% what you make of it. Was the pool crowded? Yes, on seadays it is but, we just chose to Zig when others Zagged. We went swimming late afternoon and also chose to stay on the ship for a while, while in port. Enjoyed everything the ship had to offer with NO crowds. Food was really good (I know this is subjective but, we really didn't have a bad meal and our expectations were in line, we are in the middle of the ocean, it's not going to be just like on land) , mind you we only ate in MDR once, the rest of the time was the buffet or sushi or noodle bar - soooo yummy. The spa pass is the best money spent at sea. Seriously, so relaxing, I doubt many ships can top the BA spa. Our only real complaint was the number of drunk college students that were being obnoxious. BUT, that comes with booking a summer cruise. We have selected mid-September for the next one and I have no doubt it was be even more amazing than the last. We did not find the casino smokey, the outdoor smoking area was awful but it was also easy to avoid. We don't care about bottled water and the room service charge didn't bother me at all because the service was great and the food was yummy. Staff were all very pleasant and provided us with good service.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums I could be wrong but, I'm fairly certain that Pride does not have any (or very limited) outdoor eating spaces, like BA's waterfront. This would definitely tip the scales in BA favour over pride. The waterfront was my favorite place on the ship. Low down to enjoy the water, most ALL dining venues have outdoor seating, lots of comfy, cozy, quiet places to chill and enjoy the view. And if spa is at all important to you (not the treatments necessarily) but having access to a nice adult only area, nothing beats the BA spa. We literally went there 2-3 times per day. mkmaj Posted October 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 30, 2016 We were faced with the same choice (plus RC Anthem). We picked the Breakaway because it was a few hundred cheaper for the same type of room and included beverages. The Pride was crossed off of the list first because the itinerary stunk. Whole day on a private island vs. A few hours in Freeport was a no brainer for us. Of course, I read after the fact that the private island gets skipped fairly often... but we'll roll the dice for the possibility of going. momoftwinteens Posted October 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 30, 2016 I sailed on the Breakaway this past March and I am sailing on her again next October. Breakaway is a beautiful ship. Always something to do and, if you are able to get a Vibe pass, there is always a nice quiet place to just lay in the sun it soak in a hot tub without kids or drunk people ruining the experience. I cannot speak about the Pride but can easily recommend the Breakaway! Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app

C-line Posted October 31, 2016 #13 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We've been on the Breakaway a few times and we'll be on the sailing after the Dec 26 one. We love that we can drive to the port. Maybe the reason we love the Breakaway is because we don't have a problem with some of the things other people complain about. We don't hang out by the main pool area, so we haven't noticed if it's crowded or impossible to get a chair. We don't watch much of the entertainment in the Atrium, and if we do we haven't had trouble getting a seat, even if we have to sit up at O'Sheehans. We've done both specialty restaurants and the MDR and we're happy with the food overall. We don't do the Garden Cafe buffet often, and we know to expect it to be a bit chaotic when we do. We don't have any complaints about the crew. We don't find smoke to be a problem on the ship, and none of us are smokers. We've eaten "outside" at Le Bistro and haven't had a problem with smoke. Like CasinoCruzGirl said, "A cruise is what you make of it." :)
meatball_nyc Posted October 31, 2016 #14 Share Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) Been on a few Carnival cruises and two Breakaway cruises. IMHO the Carnival staterooms were larger but the comparisons end there. NCL has everything better. Breakaway has the Waterfront on deck 8. It's perfect for ocean viewing. It's why we cruise. I wish they hadn't changed the Uptown Bar and Grill into Margaritaville but that's neither here nor there. Happy Sailing to all. ncklhaus Posted October 31, 2016 #16 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We've been on Breakaway twice already and we are booked again for January. luckyinpa Posted October 31, 2016 #17 Share Posted October 31, 2016 i'm a week back from BA and dont have my review done yet. but here are the bad parts of my trip on the inside of the one cabinet there was dust on the hinge last day in haven disembark there was a jerk that made a comment about someone cutting in line. they closed the slides /ropes on the last rough sea day (not in their control) shepherds pie in osheehans sucked my room service burger was pink ------------- thats all i can think of off the top of my head. pretty minimal wouldnt you say? :) this is one clean ship. after a few days its not as big as you think either. so walking around becomes easier and going up and down a few flights of steps isnt bad either. dont let the negative reviews sway you. i drank the free water at all the restaurants and did not get sick nor notice bad taste. i did not care that i couldnt bring on water. the crew go out of their way to make you feel good and i cannot remember any of them being rude. most are overly nice. they move out of your way in the halls. (weird but what can you do) the free food is as good as the restaurants at home and the specialty restaurants are mostly worth paying for if you dont have SDP if you want a bit better food. you will run out of time to do everything. i never even found the MDR and had to go looking for the bowling alley (osheehans bar in back). i 100% recommend the ship. that being said, i didnt use the main pool and it was a zoo when i walked by in the middle of the day. if you are into peace and quiet by the pool. you wont like this. there are decks 16 and 17 which are more relaxed. i think a lot dont know about deck 17. or 16 forward. i'm dying to get back on board. so i think u should try to book on this ship. evaluate for yourself. dont let the bad reviews sway you unless there's something particular you question. nazarene-lady Posted October 31, 2016 #19 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We just got off the Breakaway yesterday and would book again in a heart beat. Vacation is what you make it and we made it fun and relaxing. Food and Service were wonderful. Shows were great but theater seats not comfortable! We did self assist and were walking off ship at 7:50am and out of parking lot by 8:10am-home by 10:30am. Awesome time. Bermuda was amazing. hilcadon Posted October 31, 2016 #22 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We just got off of the Breakaway yesterday. I also had read a lot of bad reviews and though that I would regret my decision. It was fantastic. Food was great, waterfront was really nice and the specialty restaurants were worth the extra money. There was so much to do and was surprised that for such a big ship we did not experience any long lines or wait times. Enjoyed the shows and the staff was very friendly and did their jobs well. My wife, daughter and son in law were also pleased with the ship. Get the Ultimate drink package. Its worth the money. It also helped that the weather was great and Bermuda is one of my favorite destinations!!!

yoboy08753 Posted October 31, 2016 #25 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We have sailed both the Pride and the Breakaway. Been on the BA twice and would pick the Pride over the BA. Personally we like hanging out pool side in the sun while on board and this is one thing the BA lacks. The main pool deck is very small with lounge chairs actually open to the sun was 40, yes i counted them. Unless you want shade there is more on the main pool deck under the deck above where is where you have to go if you want to be close to the pool and hang in the sun. The Pride has this aspect beat as the pool area is great! As far as the rest of the BA we feel they crammed too much stuff into areas that just makes it feel too congested. This is just our opinion but everyone will have their own outlook on how and what they prefer in a ship. We prefer a 3000 person ship compared to a 5000 person ship
