Infinity makes a Uturn

Celebrity Infinity was headed to Nassau. It was so close it could be seen on the port cam. Then suddenly it U-turned and started heading the other way.

 

 

The Allure of the Seas did the exact same thing.

Maybe somebody at corporate finally woke up and realized what cruisers have know for years.

Brother in law is on the Allure - emailed me wondering if I could find any news...no shipboard announcement yet.

The RCL board says it was due to high winds....but the weather forecasts don't show any high winds. Very strange.

According to a website which reports current position and next port arrivals for all ships, (I don't know if it is permissible to name it here) the Allure is next scheduled for St Thomas on Wed. It would appear that Nassau has been cancelled for some reason.

 

Celebrity Infinity still show Nassau with arrival at 1:00pm, although that info may not be current.

 

No explanation though.

Forecast is for 15mph winds in Nassau. Is that too much wind for cruise ships to dock safely?

The 1pm arrival time in GMT so it was actually their planned 8am arrival. There is a webcam which shows the port area and there does not appear to be high winds.

On Infinity now. No Nassau due to winds per captain. Going to Freeport tomorrow. Weather actually quite nice. I think the wind issue back in Alaska has this ship management on edge about these things

The Infinity has great experience parking in high winds! I think it picked up some new armor from the summer.
