spr5988 Posted November 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2016 Any recommendations on a transfer from the London airport to the cruise port in Southampton that's affordable? Our cruise line is offering one way per person $101 so that's $400 basically for both ways. Is there anything you recommend that is less money but reliable? CruiserBruce Posted November 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2016 Check over on the Britain board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=233 Lots of discussions there.
John Bull Posted November 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2016 For a private transfer try http://www.smithsforairports.com or http://www.aquacars.co.uk or http://www.westquaycars.com All three, especially smiths, are frequently recommended on Cruise Critic, All three are based at the Southampton end, & you're much more likely to get good personal service than from airport-based operators. Expect to pay somewhere around £90 - £95 for the car, one-way. JB :)
Kartgv Posted November 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) On our recent trip, we noticed many people recommending buses and trains because they were so inexpensive. As older folks traveling with lots of luggage, the idea of multiple transfer points to get to our hotel didn't really appeal to us. We ended up with SmithsforAirports and were very happy with our choice. Their online booking process and communication when we had questions was very simple. The charge was less than $100US for a private sedan for 2 of us, including a car parking fee. We did tip extra, but it apparently wouldn't be necessary in the UK. The car was comfortable and clean, the driver was waiting for us when we entered baggage claim and handled all the luggage - the fact that he looked and talked like Michael Caine was an added bonus! Door to door to our Southampton hotel with no hassle or worries was priceless. Of course they would also take you directly to the cruise port if that's your choice. If you consider the train/bus options, make sure you add up all the charges to get to your final destination and remember that you'll already be tired from a long journey.
