New England/Canada Independence Day

Hi Folks

We are booked on the summit for the June 27th sailing 2017 spending American Independence Day in Boston overnight, and Canadian Independence Day in Nova Scotia overnight also.

On the list of celebrity excursions there is noting related to Independence Day at all - just the usual excursions for those ports.

I was just wondering if anyone has done this itinerary in the past and if so, did Celebrity put anything special on? Either on board or ashore?

Many thanks

I believe this might be the first time they have done a Canada cruise outside of autumn, so no precedent. If, say, they offered an excursion to see the fireworks in Boston I'm sure they would be overwhelmed with takers, and where would they go? It is a madhouse on the Charles River without the addition of pile of cruisers. Since it is an overnight, I'm sure people will make their way on their own if they so choose. You can easily make the trip by T from South Station to Charles on the Red Line (bus first from Black Falcon pier to South station, should be on a holiday schedule, however - maybe X will run shuttles to South Station?), understanding of course the throngs expected and the security measures (you can look those up on line).

I believe the fireworks in Halifax may be seen from the ship, and the other biggie there at that time is the Tattoo, which is walking distance from the ship and which you can buy your own tickets on-line, no need to take a ship excursion (if they even offered one).

I doubt Celebrity would be having any special excursions in Halifax for Canada Day other than perhaps some shuttle buses to bring you to various events.

Here is a link to the Government of Canada 150th Anniversary page. http://canada.pch.gc.ca/eng/1473870972268

Not much on it at the moment but as you get closer to the date you should be able to get more information on the time and location of various events. Based on where the ship docks and where the events usually are you should simply be able to walk to most.

A shuttle bus to somewhere we could view the fireworks would be good. Although we can make our way there easily enough, according to the Boston forum on Trip Advisor we'd have to go to watch from the Cambridge side of the river (only way to get into the Boston side is start queuing at 6am and spend the whole day there) the sheer number of people leaving after the event make public transport difficult and it's too far to walk back to the ship from Cambridge.

I do think it's a little odd that celebrity aren't doing anything for Independence Day when it's actually advertised as an "Independence Day cruise"

We will no doubt work something out but was hoping someone had previous experience but it sounds like this is the first time for this itinerary.

We are on the Sept 10 2017 Canada/New England sailing. In preparation, I have written to the tourist bureaus of the various ports we are stopping in. (See applicable links listed below.

After about March of 2017 the updated materials and calendar of events should be available. Make sure to look at the Feneuil Hall website for special events as well.

This is a special cruise..have fun!
