Dream 8420

I know this is a slim chance that the passenger who was in 8420 the week before me will see this but I will put this out there. Security stopped my roomy and myself coming out of the MDR one night this last week and ask us to step to the side. They then asked if they could search our room for something and escorted us up there. We gave them permission to search even though the only thing they said was that an item had been left behind. We let them go through our belongings as much as they wanted to and we even looked under beds, behind everything and in all the cubby holes. Nothing turned up and they finally told us what they were looking for. We never saw such an item and I hope it turns up for you. I would feel terrible is something that was sentimental of mine was lost and feel badly for you.

What was the item ? Anything of value .

This is peculiar. Room stewards thoroughly clean rooms, although I realize small items could conceivably get lost in shuffle.

I can't fathom a cruise line would request to search your bags. I have no temper whatsoever but I personally wouldn't respond very well to that request. Get the eff outta here...

On several cruises I have found things high up on shelves or on top of cabinets including a sweater, a shoe (not the pink croc!), clothing under the bed.

We were told it was a pendent and chain that was valuable and sentimental. The person who lost it had sent an e-mail wanting to see if it could be located.

Sue? I agree with you that they shouldn't have treated them like criminals especially the fact that they escorted them from the MDR. It doesn't seem like they were forced to be searched though. The OP seemed very cooperative which may have allowed this to be resolved a little faster. Suing is one thing but what are the grounds that a lawyer would be willing to take up such a case?

LOL, yeah I couldn't even get a lawyer to take on a malpractice case when a hospital misdiagnosed my son a few years ago and he almost died. And that has been the only time I have ever called a lawyer. Cruise lines are virtually impossible to sue and this is minor in the scheme of things. I did contact the Guest Services Department after getting home and let them know that I think things could have been handled differently. Also the more I thought about it the more it just didn't feel right and the two security officers, even though not rude, were a bit on the cold side. It kind of went though my mind that maybe they were looking to see if we had drugs or something. It put a damper on our evening and we did feel stared down by other passengers when being escorted to our room. Even a lot of the room stewards were watching us. I always try to be accommodating and I had nothing to hide nor did my roommate but in this case I wish guest services had contacted us and asked if we had found anything then I would have looked myself.

I am glad that you were accommodating and didn't let it escalate. I would agree to them searching my room if they explained to me that someone left something that was sentimental to them. However, I don't think I would let them go through my personal things. They just have to take my word for it. Maybe I would volunteer to open my things myself and kinda give them a glance inside. If they chose to take actions then that's where it would have escalated then they would have to offer me some cruise credit or something when I prove that I have nothing to hide.

The passengers and stewards may have been looking at you just because it is not everyday you see someone being escorted on a cruise. They may be just wondering what's going on.

I hope the rest of your cruise went well.

If it was a case of looking for something left behind, a simple message left on your phone or in your room to contact GS, at your convenience, would probably have been more appropriate. Not tracking you down on the ship and escorting you.

I feel like that would have been the appropriate action of the hotel manager or security and I still feel like they were looking for something else. I sat my jewelry case on the bed and I asked if they needed to look at it and he said no. Never even glanced at it. I would think if they were looking for a pendant and chain and the person offered to let them look they would have taken that opportunity to do so. I take blame for being over accommodating because that is my nature but after it was over I really had a feeling they were not looking for jewelry. We shall see what Carnival says if/when they contact me but the gentleman I talked to at Carnival felt like this was not appropriate and should have been handled in a much better manner.

Totally understand; being caught off guard and in the moment I don't think I'd push back either if asked, and probably look back at it afterwards and feel differently. It seems, like you said, they were either looking for something else, or abusing power at your expense. I wonder if maybe a neighbor reported smelling pot and thought it was coming from your room? That's all I can think of.

So sorry that happened and I hope Corporate takes your concerns seriously.

LOL, yeah we both thought they might have been looking for drugs. My roomy was a very Christian woman who never did drugs and in her mid 50's and I am 52 and never did any drugs. She does not drink and I had part of a Mimosa and a Mocha Chocolate Getaway. I have only been drunk 1 time in my life and that was 1 time too many.
