Grand Cayman tour backup?

We are booked on Azura in February and have booked all but one trip that we want to do. The final trip is for the tour around Grand Cayman up to Hell and round to Rum point, but we have been on the waitlist for a couple of months and now I notice that some of the other trips are booked up. What is the chances of picking up a trip from the port, once you've got off the boat? Has anyone done this before, any particular vendor to search out and what sort of cost can we expect?

My other option is to hire a car, but the boat goes afternoon, so would rather not have the stress of time.

I am led to believe there are many ship in that day and we maybe using a tender.

Many thanks

Keith (Southend)

There are lots of taxis offering tours at the port. The minivan type wait until they've got a full load and head off to 7 Mile Beach and others. IIRC there were 4 other ships in port when Britannia was (we were first in, loved watching the other ships sail up the channel behind us) and there were still plenty of taxi and local tour operators to go round.

An alternative would be to visit the Grand Cayman rum distillery. You can get a taxi from the port, costs about 8 dollars pp. You can book online in advance for the tour, payment in cash on the day. Extensive tasting of the rums and liqueurs they produce. It's only a small operation, so looking round doesn't take ages - the whole thing took about 2 hours (most of it tasting), the guy who ran the tour was brilliant, very funny and informative. They will happily call you a cab to go back to town or to take you on to somewhere else, such as a beach. It was one of the highlights of our Caribbean cruise.
