The very design and theme of the ships create, in my opinion, a totally different cruise experience between Carnival and Celebrity. I'm not saying one is better than the other (personally, Celebrity is my favorite line), but depending on what you like in a cruise vacation, you can either be very happy or very unhappy depending on your choice. For example, these 2 pictures are telling. There is obviously a big difference in theme here.....

We had a very similar deal a couple years with Celebrity to Alaska. The cruise itself was cheaper than CARNIVAL's Alaskan cruise for the same week and then with all the perks it was a no brainer for us. I will say the MDR food was far better than Carnival but the buffet was not as good as Carnival, the theater shows were superior to Carnival but outside of those each evening there was basically nothing else to do (unless you like the casino...we don't). We only had one sea day and that was perfect, if there had been a second sea day, we would have gotten bored.

So, back to helping you prepare for the Silhouette. You'll notice Celebrity uses a much different color scheme. Their ships are much brighter than Carnival with more modern colors. Carnival (pre-Breeze) leans more toward the glitzy Vegas look.
