bigfoot88 Posted January 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2017 I am considering a Boston/Bermuda this year, NCL cut back the later/Oct out of NYC. In NYC they give a boarding number/ Group number, being platinum we got low numbers. How do they do boarding in Boston. don't-use-real-name Posted January 1, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 1, 2017 We were platinum in October out of Boston and received a number two boarding number after the suites. Boarding by the numbers. With suites and Havens they have their own reception area and merely wait for their butler to escort them on board to their cabins independently of the platinum gold silver bronze groups. Handicap and mobility cruisers are boarded when the necessary staff is available and a break in boarding is made for them. The priority boarding order of Plat - Gold - Silver - Bronze and other affinity groups is made as these folks check-in. As I recall Boston does not have a great deal of room to hold groups for boarding. For those without priority boarding it does not help to arrive early when your group is last to board. In some cases the gangway is crowded almost all the way from the Guest Check-In counter to the key card scanning point on the ship. It is not much unlike the boarding of an aircraft at an air terminal. Priority cruisers board first and then the gates are fully open for the rest to board. It jams up pretty much right away and then tends to thin out getting closer to departure. Boarding by numbered groups does help provided all the folks in those groups are available for group boarding with no stragglers. It is also helpful if the computer machinery (key card scanners) are doing their part to keep the flow moving and NCL agents are monitoring that flow. I believe that the boarding process is still in an experimental stage with the SUGGESTED arrival and CHECK-IN TIMES noted with your computer generated invoice papers, Boarding the small ships presents fewer problems than the -away class ships. Then too the number of boarding gangways can make a real difference in the efficient pleasant movement of folks onboard.
